Hunting dog drives was awesome - great story Quailman! I missed 6-10 deer probably with my shotgun over several years and then accidentally we looked at the pattern with buck shot on the ethica - was horrible - More like a scatter gun
Finally got my first rifle at 16 in 1985 and in 1985 I killed my first deer with it - an 8 point! Processor who did lot of deer said it was 2nd biggest deer he processed that year! I remember dragging him up a steep hill and I was so jacked up he felt like a feather!! The old club I was in sucked - type of club you could go a week straight without even seeing a deer so people were jacked when I killed the 8. Shot it in plot #3 which has 2 fields. The field I was in did not feel right - walked to the other at about 4:00 and 8 point was feeding. I leaned against a tree which alerted him and shot him with my new 270! He bolted which I had seen many times before with the shoot and run or misses! Walk to edge of field and he was laying at bottom of field! Never enjoyed dragging a deer so much!!
