November of 1983 was when I killed my first. I was 13 years old and was walking in a small set of woods with my old Revelation lever action .22. Deer jumped up out of some briers and stopped at about 40yrs. 1 shot to the head and she dropped like a rock. Man I was excited for a few minutes and then I got scared. I was probably 3/4 of a mile from home and I had to cross open fields with her and I had a non legal rifle that I shot her with. It didn’t take me long to get her home but by the time I got her there, I swear she weighed a thousand pounds. And once I got her home I had no idea what to do with her. We duck hunted and rabbit hunted. Never even seen a deer cleaned before. We cleaned calves every year so I figured I’d clean her like we did the calves. That little outlawing adventure lit a fire in me and I’ve been hooked on deer hunting ever since. The legal way. October of 1985 I killed my first deer with a bow. I little Bear compound with Easton Gamegetter arrows and a 100gr. Satellite broadhead. Shot the at 15yrs. Wasn’t the best shot. Hit her in the lower neck and cut the jugular vain and she was dead within 50yds. Man I was on top of the world that day. I’ve come a long ways from those days. Wouldn’t trade them days for anything though.
