I can remember it like it was yesterday.

1973, I was 9 years old. We run dogs, in Rabun Alabama. One of the first times my Uncle let me stand by myself I was listening to the dog's.

They were coming to me. Most times it was a doe, which were off limits back then.

I hear something running up behind me. Turn around and this cowhorn slammed on the brakes right behind me. I swung around with my Mossberg 410, and shot him right in the face. Happened so quick, I was freaked out. Never forget that morning.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

Killed my first buck in SC at 13. Sat the same wooden ladder stand same tree two years ago.
I’m 41yo.
Stands still a killer.
Stand might be ready for a replacement lol.
But might have a few years left yet.

In Minter, 11 years old I think. Setting in a shooting house with my Deddy. Revelation 30/30 iron sights, 50 yards, yearling doe that I thought was the biggest deer in the state. Dropped in her tracks. Still have the rifle

I remember my first one also. Saturday after Thanksgiving in 82. I was in a ladder stand about 60 yards off the RR tracks that ran through our club outside Linden. A 100 lb spike came to the tracks to cross and I put a bullet from my 7x57 just inside his shoulder. He ran 20 yards and died.

Does 37 years old count as a kid? Shot a doe in the same field my son shot his first deer in a few years later (age 7 for him).

Basket rack 4 pointer with an Ithaca Featherweight pump 12 gauge. I believe I was 10/11 years old. (1982/83’ish). I can see it in my mind so clearly still.

Like it was yesterday. Was 13, worked all summer and bought a ruger m77 mk 2 in 308 from the minnow bucket. Found a deal on a bsa scope. Got sighted in with my dad’s help. Friend of the family was president of a hunting club and let us hut a food plot. Gave one of those go to a big tree hang a left and when the vine crosses your path you’ve passed the stand. Got mixed up and found the stand at first light. Big doe popped out at far end of lane. My dad wanted to record it on his camcorder. Got all situated and back flipped the doe. Rolling the film back all that was recorded was “ ok shoot when ready”. Black after that

Thanksgiving day 1976, first deer hunt, close to Kennedy AL. My father and cousin put me on a stand on the edge of a corn field and they made a man drive around the field. Never forget looking in that thicket and there was a cowhorn spike just standing there. Emptied my brand new 1100, he didn't make it far. I still hunt that place, walk by that spot and brings back alot of good memories.

Late December 1988 in Rabun, Al. I was 12 years old. Our group was doing a dog drive. It was during the short doe season back during those years. My cousin turned out the dogs and had to go behind a man’s house and the man was drunk. The drunk man turned out his bull dogs and started shooting his gun since he was not liking the deer dogs being turned out behind his house but we were not on his property. I was standing off the edge of a straight stretch of dirt road and I was the only stander on the road. With all of the noise and commotion going on, a doe and a spike which barely broke the hairline tried to slip out away from all of the noise and commotion and I was standing about 40 yards from them. I decided that day was going to be the day I killed my first deer and it happened that I killed two on that day. I was toting my daddy’s Diawa Auto 500 shotgun 12 gauge loaded with 00 Buckshot I had past up plenty of opportunities for two years and got tired of waiting on a nice buck so those were my first two deer kills. It is kinda funny how the human mind works with memory and what some memories mean to us- As for me that first deer kill means just as much to me as any buck I have killed in the years after.

My first deer was a big doe I shot with a single shot Stevens 20 ga in 1992. Hatchet creek hc running dogs. That couple seconds is burned into my memory more vivid than any other. Lol she dropped and I instantly started trying to open a box of buckshot I had in my pocket but my hands where so cold and numb I just ripped the box open just before my uncle yelled "hold up she's dead nate".

I guess I need to add a story to mine……. smile

If you look on Google Earth just to southeast of Hollytree you’ll see Threwer Point there on top of the mountain……If you notice there’s a gulley that peters out right where Threwer Point is written on the map and it runs all the way back down to the valley below where there’s a little camp……That camp is where that picture was taken…..

It was the first day of the “either sex” hunt back when we first had a week or ten days there around Christmas to kill does…..My uncle had been seeing some does come up the mountain on the first bench down from the top just a couple hundred yards on the northern side of that big gulley I’m talking about…….So the plan that morning was to get up WAYYYY before daylight and hike to the top of the mountain and be setting there ready to catch one of those does slipping right at daybreak……It might not look like much on the map but that’s a hell of hike that required two to three Marlboro breaks along the way to pace yourself and not be ringing wet with sweat by the time you made it to the top of the mountain…… My uncle smoked Marlboro Reds

Everything worked out text book perfect that morning……We got up there to the top of the mountain and in our stands with it still pitch dark and just as soon as it started breaking daylight you could hear crunching coming up the mountain from below headed to the top…..It finally got light enough that I could make out a deer walking by me broadside at about 20 yards and I put my cross hairs behind the shoulder and squeezed one off…..Boooom!!.....It jumped and trotted a couple yards and stopped…..I didn’t know if I hit it or missed so I put my crosshairs on it again and Boooom!!......looked up and it was gone…….

I was so tore up I just got down and went and got my uncle and he’s like “Boy dang!....You should have kept sitting there for a while….Its all good though….Lets go see if you hit her”…….It wasn’t until we walked up on it that I heard my uncle say “It’s a buck!!!!”…….Back then it was something just to see a deer and to kill any rack buck special……To have two of them hung up in camp on the same morning was a rare thing…….The other guy in the pic with me was the club president…..He came dragging one off the mountain that morning at the exact same time we did

You know you don’t see drag marks on their hide like that too much anymore with everyone owning a buggy now…..It might have been all downhill but between hiking to the top of the mountain that morning and dragging a deer all the way back down…..I dang sure worked for my first one……and that’s why I have that look on my face grin

I was 10 years old with my grandad and was leaned agin a tree on a steep uphill shot. I pulled the trigger and because of the angle of the hill, and no backleg support, the .270 blew me back onto my back. I said to grandpa, "did I get it"?! He said "yeah you got him"! lol

I was 12 in a shooting house by myself the first time at Boggy Branch in Screamer, AL. Shot a doe and she ran down a hill about 200 yards after the shot. Also my first time helping to clean a deer…my uncles weren’t going to let me get by since I gut shot her. She was 140 lbs live weight. Seems like a long time ago now.
