And if there really was fewer recalls in the past, it could be that American guts were tougher and more resilient (better immunity) than today so fewer would have gotten sick enough to report it or go to the hospital about it. I bet the cave men never got sick? Folks died all the time from eating spoiled food and getting bad parasites before the modern era. Most dysentery that killed folks back in the day was Salmonella and E. Coli.
