I went as far as building a platform blind that was real easy for him to get in and out of. We hunted out of fiberglass tanks and he couldn’t get in them anymore. He always hunted with a really nice Browning B80 I believe it was. It was the semi auto that you would load on the side plate. I’d always tell him how I just loved that little gun. One morning we were in the blind and we had gotten the limit and was just enjoying the morning drink coffee and talking. He loved to talk. As we were getting ready to leave I took his gun and gently put it in the case and set it in the boat. He looked at me and told me that he’d was going to leave that gun to me when he died and he was going to have his secretary document it. I was like, ok I appreciate that. Thinking he was just poking fun at me. He had no kids or family around him. A year later I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize but answered anyway. It was his secretary informing me that Mr. Cochran had passed and that he wanted me to have a shotgun of his. I was almost floored. Not sure more from the news of his passing or that he actually left me the gun. She was telling me that he had left one of his other guns to her son but he would have to grow into it. It was a 12ga shotgun. I told that I really wanted that 20ga shotgun but I didn’t need it and that I wanted her to keep it and give it to her son. She wouldn’t hear of it and we squabbled back and forth and she finally agreed. I hope that young man is still shooting that gun or has passed it to one of his kids as this was over 20yrs ago.

Great story; one of my former duck hunting buddies(RIP Sam Lewis) hunted with a B80. Those are made by Beretta and are basically a Beretta 302/303. Good guns
