Do you notice more power usage to bump ac higher during the day then lower at night?
Who leaves theirs on constant temp 24hrs a day?

Mine stays on 69* from basically mid-March until probably late-Oct/early-Nov.....I work in a home office so I'm home most of the time, couldn't tell you how it affects power bill cause I've never tried turning it up.

I know for the past few weeks, it hasn't shut off during the day. Our house gets full sunshine from probably an hour after sunrise until sunset, so the last few days it's been struggling to keep it 72-73. Once the sun gets down it cools back down pretty quick

Mine says on 72 except on cold days in winter.

Mine stays on 62 and that’s only because it’s the lowest it can go. If it went to 42 that’s where it would be set.

Mine stays on 72 in the summer and 68 in the winter (although I have gas heat). I have always heard that you don't really save any money but cutting temp up during the day, then lowering it at night. It just makes your ac work harder to bring temp down. I don't know if that is true or not, but stuck with me, so I have always left temp at one setting.

AC set @ 73, 24-7 in Summer, @ 70 in Winter 24-7

Lord....do you live in a walk-in cooler? Does it actually get that low? (and if so, what did you insulate with??)

I know I have this discussion with MrsGomer at least once week throughout the summer....AC can be running, and been running non-stop since shortly after sunrise and already not keeping the house at the set temp, and she'll ask me to "turn it down more" because she's hot.

"Honey, it's 137* outside. The AC is set on 69, it's been running for 6hrs non-stop and the lowest it can get to is 72*....turning it down further will make exactly ZERO difference"

72 in the summer and 68 in the winter. Life is too short to be hot and cold in your own house.

My son is in the hvac business and he says set it and forget is the most efficient way

Funny you mention this, I got home yesterday around 5:30 and immediately noticed the house was warmer than usual. I looked at the t-stat, it was set on 77 which is where we always have it but the registered INSIDE temp air was showing 79 on the t-stat. We run ceiling fans and the inside of the house is very comfortable at 77, I think a lot of this was me and the wife blowing 32 bags of insulation about 4 years ago in the attic which really helped the power bill and inside comfort. The outside temp was really high yesterday at 99 to 100 so me thinks the 3 year old unit was just trying to do its thing and keep up with the hot outside air. After the sun started setting around 8pm things got back to normal inside

It will get cool enough for the thermostat to kick the unit off. Now a thermostat is not a thermometer so the actual in house temp is not really 62. And since my wife inhabits the south wing her unit remains on 69-72 setting. She can’t set it and leave it, she’s always adjusting. But my end (the north wing) stays much cooler even though I haven’t checked it with a thermometer.

73-74 all Summer. Any lower, and it will never shut off.

We started leaving ours set and forgetting it. Tuesday morning I noticed my fan on the outside condenser wasn’t working. First thing I did was change the start capacitor. Fan didn’t start but tried to move. I spun the fan and it started working. Worked for about 30 minutes and stopped again. Called my HVAC guy for a fan motor. Didn’t have one but would have me one Wednesday morning. Fortunately I have small window units in our bedroom for emergency use only. Replaced the motor Wednesday morning and worked fine. I put the A/C on around 10am and it didn’t get the house to 74deg till after 8pm. Once everything in a house warms up it takes a lot to cool it back down.
