I used to change my own oil when my boys had cars and lived at home. The only hassle of changing your own oil is disposing of the old oil properly. I know Advanced Auto Parts will recycle oil but it got to be a hassle. Now, I just take it to the dealer.

I used to change my own oil when my boys had cars and lived at home. The only hassle of changing your own oil is disposing of the old oil properly. I know Advanced Auto Parts will recycle oil but it got to be a hassle. Now, I just take it to the dealer. I’ve got an Advanced Auto 1.5mi from my house, that’s where I take my waste oil. That said I don’t produce a ton of waste so it’s pretty easy for me due to proximity and low amount. I could see it easily being a hassle though with a lot of oil

I could see it easily being a hassle though with a lot of oil I have 2, 5 gal hydraulic oil buckets with tops and spouts and use the 5 quart jugs that oil comes in . When I accumulate 15-20 gal , I make a run to AA about 7 miles away. Pretty easy.

Funny, it seems like everytime I try to recycle the oil, the parts store always tells me they are full and won't take it.

Oil can be recycled at home. It’s easy. I use it for treating fence posts, trailer floors, or any lumber that needs weather resistance.
You can thin it with diesel fuel and it makes a great economical herbicide. Oil came from the ground and it goes back in the ground even easier than it came out.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

They used to spray it on dirt roads to keep the dust down. That was still going on into the early 1980s in rural OK where we were plowing telephone cable. Looking back on it, I'm surprised that Jimmy Carter's EPA had not already ended that.
