A lot of questions... Where? With what money? Who will staff it? ... etc.... Trump just ordered the Secretary of War to create a fifth US Navy shipyard…
The first new Navy shipyard in 80+ years. https://x.com/Geiger_Capital/status/2088030783806005468

Do we not need more naval ship building capability?

Do we not need more naval ship building capability? I dont know if we do or not. We do. The navy is falling further behind by the month. The existing yards cannot seem to get anything out on time or on budget. I confess I don't know if it's because it's antiquated or not. If so, the new yard wouldn't suffer from that issue. Either way, another yard can help get things on track with volume alone. I KNOW the navy brass are a lot of the reason. They can't not fuck the contracts up. Too many changes and too many cancelled contracts means China has outpaced us on numbers if not tonnage. Sandboxx news covers these issues in depth. For shits sake. We are having to use Coast Guard models because we can't produce a destroyer. It's a flippin boondoggle. If Trump is trying to correct it, then even idiots like JM should be applauding it. But can't because the derangement is too strong.

I don’t know if we need it or not, I thought I made my point that it shouldn’t be one man’s decision but I guess you’re too ignorant to pick up on that. Point being the next Democrat can just shut it down if we’re going to give one man that much power.

The Shipyards are not the problem , finding good and qualified workers is the problem. I seen it the last 38 years when I worked for Huntington Ingalls.

Sad, but any type of manufacturing/repair is in BIG trouble if this country don’t turn it around. There’s way too much coddling of these young people and boy oh boy, don’t they know how to play the system.

They’re putting in a submarine parts plant in the Railcar plant in Barton. Supposedly adding another military parts plant as well. Probably around 3000 high paying jobs if they can fill the positions.
There’s a reason robots are becoming more and more a thing

Reading the navy bloggers, the Chinese build more ships every year than we have in the 80 years since WWII; We haven't had trained workers in decades. It will take more decades to regain the institutional knowledge to build any ships to speak of. The question isn't whether we need more shipbuilding capacity it's how we can possibly catch up. Don't even get started on the bureaucracy that takes years or decades to even decide on a platform

I like how you get away with calling folks names. Which one are you referring to, JM or Fatty? Fatty called JM an idiot first so is that who you are asking? Go back and read it and prove me wrong. See what you want to see again.
