I use Waze simply because it will alert you to speed traps, but I really dislike it. I can't prove it, but I'm convinced companies pay Waze to divert you toward their businesses even if it's not the fastest route.

I've experienced multiple instances, personally, where it had me routed a certain way that I thought "No way that's the best route", so I diverted from the route and went a different way. As soon as it recalculated, my ETA would be shorter...by several minutes in some cases.

I've also noticed that if you're travelling with other people, going to the same place, it'll often send you on slightly different routes even though the starting point and finishing point are identical and you're leaving at the same time. I suspect it uses internet browsing habits to route you toward things it thinks you'd be interested in, even if it's a little slower

Google maps does the same thing. But it's not routing me through or near businesses. My son and I are convinced it's using us to map streets and alternative routes for some reason. Not sure why.

Waze is less prone to do that in my opinion. I turn maps on even if I don't need it. Just to see where it tries to take me. I silence it though.

Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.
