I lived on little lagoon for several years in Ft Morgan in the early 2000’s til a few years after Katrina. I really miss that lifestyle but even then traffic and constant building got to me. I was roughy 4 houses up from the wildlife refuge. I ventured over to Elberta pretty often and really enjoyed the atmosphere as I felt like I was back in the country. Hardly any traffic,close to the beach,water,etc and very nice deer population. If I was to move back down that way I’d check into Elberta. Now with that said I sure do miss walking 50 yards to the seawall and pier and catching fish,crabs,etc and letting my troubles float away daily. I caught some very nice trout,flounder etc off our pier,kayak annd jet ski all up and down that lagoon. We replaced the pier twice,knockout room twice and had a lot of water damage with Ivan and Katrina. Cost of living wasn’t too bad except for taxes and insurance.

I hear that Estill Fork is nice all year  Shhhhhhh. The Paint Rock Valley is a diamond in the rough. Most of the great benefits of rural living but within 15 minutes of downtown Huntsville. Any town around there; Gurley, Princeton, Garth, Trenton, Hollytree, Estill Fork. Also Owens Cross Roads and New Hope. Just google "Curly Putman Highway" or "AL-65, Paint Rock, Alabama" In all honesty, this valley is my favorite place on the planet

I would like to be in auburn - I lov golf and auburn is loaded with that and hunting in that area is also great
Like to visit beach area but not stay there
Then there is college sports

Elmore county is nice. God willing, we’ll be there in 3-4 months. Everyone from monkeytown is moving out here. Traffic has more than doubled. Wetumpka had two red lights, a long time ago. No traffic after the working crowd got home. I live about 5 miles from Kowaliga and it is getting crowded out here. I have 68 acres and people are moving in around me. Pastureland being sold. Billboards going up all over and I hate the light intrusion. Makes it harder to see the stars and the wonder of God's Universe. No Walmart for years. Had to go to Montgomery or Tallassee, before 1987. Montgomery has gotten so bad, with the shootings, that people in upscale neighborhoods are moving out here.

I did see it then and I remember! We moved to Huntsville in 1971, I was in 5th grade. My dad brought us in through Jackson county on 72 through Pain Rock. We went back a few times after just to see it all.

Lived in Baldwin county for 14 years (Stapleton area). Moved to Prattville 4 years ago for work. Hope to retire in 3 years and we are considering either Auburn or back to Baldwin (Spanish Fort area). Auburn/Opelika is what we are leaning towards right now because we have family in the area. I know Baldwin well, would like to hear more about Auburn/Opelika area, especially for retirees

No advice on where you should pick, but if i ever move again, it will be to wyoming! Idaho, and south dakota wouldn't be out of the question either. You would think WY would be great but my friend moved out there from Westville 12 years ago and is in process of moving back East to AR. It wasn’t the cold weather,snow or wind. The final straw was the nuts that are moving into WY from CA Washington state and OR. He says it’s all weird people with violent tendencies that started killing cops and regular folks. It’s a shame because he loved living in WY up to last 2.5 years when change started.
