Josh is well educated and well spoken
Shawn has trust issues but he ask questions Jesus warned us about false prophets. He intended for us to distrust. Shawn is going slow, learning, asking questions. But you can see he's following that path to Jesus. Just moving a little slower than some. Because of that he will be a rock solid warrior for Jesus in the end.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.
