I'm 64 and have never had heartburn. Last four days after going to bed I wake up and chest is killing me. Gets better after I sit up. Went and got some OTC stuff. I now understand why people complain about it. I always ate any thing I wanted. I sure hope this goes away.

I was able to stop prescription omeprazole with diet changes and time of eating. Hope you find what works for you.

I have to take omeprazole every morning. Heartburn sucks.
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

You are 64 and wake up with "heartburn" 4 days running? Might go to the emergency room and check for heart issues. That's what I would do. Could be a lot of things, but some heart issues that present that way will kill you.

For starts, don’t eat anything heavy or spicy late at night, nothing after 6 for me. Keep water by your bedside. Plain tap water does wonders for some people, washes it down. These are things you can do without meds.

As others have stated, no food or drink after 6-6:30 pm, or within 4-5 hours of when you plan to go to bed. Stress and poor eating habits caused my heart burn and correcting that did more than any medication I took.

This was similar issues my father had and he believed it was stomach issues especially after eating, bloating and belching and such. After a couple of months, the stomach doctor sent him to a cardiologist to find out he had 3 blockages at 99%. Each time he ate, the filling of the stomach pressing against arteries causing the issues. Not classic heart symptoms but classic in his family. He was a ticking time bomb. I hope you get relief soon. Stomach issues affect every area in your body and your life!

When I hit 60 I couldn’t eat anything like my younger days. I watch what I eat and avoid eating late. Things like pizza that might give acid reflux, I eat before 630 and take a preventative OTC acid reducer after eating. Watch my portions too. If I overindulge I’ll get bad acid reflux at night. What I’ve found is simple changes in eating have almost eliminated my acid reflux issues. But I still watch it and take a preventative acid reducer pill if I eat pizza, Italian, Messican, and similar or drink more than 1 beer or alcoholic beverages.

Oh, and I had to give up that last pinch of Copenhagen a couple hours before I went to bed. Might not be your thing though.

Mix about a tsp of backing soda in a 1/2 glass of cold water and drink it.

Get checked by your doc.You might otherwise wake up dead.
Back in 1990, my chiropractor at the time fixed my heartburn that I had multiple times every day and night. I thought he was insane when he pointed to a place on the x-ray and asked if I had heartburn and then he said he'd fix it. I can count on less than both hands the number of times that I've been bothered by it since then. Sadly he has passed on and now his son runs the place like herding cattle through a gate with none getting attention.

Just wait until you aspirate stomach acid. It gets in your sinuses. Lungs. and it's damned miserable.
