I've never replaced a vehicle ECM but I'm thinking of doing so on a 2005 Buick LaCrosse that belongs to my son's girlfriend. The car is in overall great condition and has been diagnosed as dead ECM. I've researched some and found that a pre flashed unit based on the VIN number appears to be the way to go.

So, I need input from anybody who has done this. Am I going to need an expensive scan tool for whatever reason? I have a petty basic unit already. Any other info including if it's even worthwhile to do this. And FWIW, I can get an ECM with lifetime warranty for less than $300

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.
