The day I work for all year. We got two inches of rain in 45 minutes, but we made it work and everything went smooth. Nebraska is where these boys are headed. I didn’t have my phone cause it was raining so hard, but my wife got few pictures. Thank you lord, is all I can say. We had a good year.

Yes sir. 74 steers at 736lbs average. He was little overloaded, but driver was cool with it.

Wow thats fantastic. Are you taking them to a market? Already sold them? Forgive me, I haven't been around the cattle industry since I was 10 at the Fort Worth TX stock yards

Sale on the internet, buyers that buys them send truck after them. We load em, they go to scales and weigh them. Take 2% off weight for shrink, that’s what they figure they’ll lose from time we load to the time the feedlot gets em. They’ll feed em out till late spring maybe early summer. Most of our calves goes to Midwest, but have sold some up the east cost as well. Red Angus influence on all of them. Next year we won’t sell red angus as we’ve put some red Charalois in the herd this year. So we’ll see how that works. Sold with Superior for years and sold on internet and RFD tv. But last 2 years we’ve used elite livestock/live ag. Guys have worked hard for us to bring premium prices for the calves.

They was on feed 67 days. Gained 2.75lbs per day average. The rain dang sure did that, I had em on the truck and hitting the highway in 34 minutes, so they was good to go. We normally load out at daylight or touch over, but buyer said having extreme temps out there, so we shipped em in the afternoon this time. Which I’m sure running with 55,000 on the trailer is the reason for night hauling too. 😁😁. Wedowee Alabama

How do they get water or food traveling that far in a semi trailer?

Far as I know most all ours just tuff it out and make the trip. We did have some get offloaded one time in Kansas. The driver went to wrong farm, and time it would have took to go to right farm it would have been pushing 30 plus hours. So they off loaded at a feed yard and re loaded the next day. That was 2014ish I think. We loads they go to the scales about 25 miles from us, they get weights and we get check. Once they on the truck they are the buyers then. So it’s up to him make that call I guess.

Get them on the truck, get pay weights, get paid, get them in the wind. I like to see the rain on load out day. Especially when chickens leave.

Congrats on a successful year! I hate seeing those pics of livestock laying dead during drought years.

How do they pay you:
- $/lb live weight
- $/lb after butchering
- Do they look at each cow and give you a $ for them - auction

Live weight is what they pay. They take out a 2% fee for shrink. Shrink is the weight they’ll lose from our farm to the farm they are going to. In simple terms.

Calf weighed 736lbs, take 2% off that and you get 722lbs. We get paid for 722lbs.

They don’t. If you go out through the Midwest, you notice all the livestock trucks haul azzzzz. They’re trying to get to the feed lots as fast as possible to minimize loss. These drivers don’t piddle around at the truck stops.
