Have you guys not seen the median guard rails and cables on I-65?? There ain’t a 5-mile stretch that’s hasn’t been ran over. Really hard to keep the juice following with cars continuously wrecking the panels. It would be no different than when a car hits a power pole on any random road anywhere. Repair crews come out, fix it, rinse repeat. Yeah but that repair would require putting lives in serious danger and causing massive traffic problems.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Yup. They wont use all 1,400 acres. It may get whittled down to about 300 acres of actual panels. Still that chunk of land will effectively be lost. When somebody at the Federal level eventually gets paid enough, you can expect Tuskegee NF to go up for sale.
The I-85 corridor from the Gump to Auburn is going the same direction as I-20 for B-Ham to T-town. Reckon what 300 acres worth of panels would pay out per year? Seems like they could have kept land in tack and made it roll some cash some other way. Guess not though I heard on a podcast last week that some of these solar leases are $4000/acre per year for the best locations. Proximity to big cities and the power grid are things to consider. That’s serious $$$

The land, Clearview Ranch, is mostly open fields and has been on the market a long time. IIRC, it is owned by a realtor in the Montgomery area.
Was in a club a few years back and one of the members worked for the owner. He would get called to eliminate does occasionally at Clearview.
Shoot as many as possible were the rules. Sorry CNC.

I don’t understand why they don’t do like other countries do like Japan and put the panels in the medium along the highways. They also put them on top of parking garages. I always wondered why the State did not grow timber in the larger medians?

1400 acres of some of the best deer and turkey hunting in Alabama gone for a solar farm. Macon/Bullock County. From what I can gather it’s some of the old Sedgefield Plantation Clearview Ranch property. Joins Sedgefield Plantation. About two miles North West of Union Springs. And yes, some of the best deer and turkey hunting in Alabama. Yep. I really don’t blame the sellers, I just hate to see it. I was looking at the map and if it’s the land I’m thinking about I’ve actually looked for a couple deer on that place….……You go out co rd 23 a little ways and then turn right on a little road that runs you out into some crop fields where there’s a little cabin…..Like AU said that place is mostly open crop field and I’m pretty sure likely gonna be on that vein of blackbelt soil…… One of the deer I looked for out there I specifically remember was a leg shot that we tracked south onto Sedgefield and then across co rd 23 right where the powerline crosses……Found his bed right there where you see old town creek cross the powerline but never could sort it out after that…..It looked like he got out of the bed and ran a few circles before hitting the creek or something…..This was the next day after the shot and I think yotes had done got him up and got after him

Why not pines. And those mentioning the possible damage from wrecks, just put the panels in the center and have the guardrails on the outside towards traffic.

Interstate is a whole different beast. Falls under federal traffic control regulations and even urgent repairs require advanced planning, protocols and permits. It’s not just red tape either it’s for legit safety reasons. Once you go beyond the 55 mph zone it’s not just a matter of setting up signs and running strobes. A lot of men and equipment have to be dedicated to the traffic control operation.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.
