My wife's cousin is looking to sell a Marlin lever gun but she has no idea of a value. I'm not a lever gun guy so I'm at a loss too. It's a Marlin Model 1893 chambered in 32-40. According to what I can find from a serial # look up it was made in 1898. It's all original and in decent shape for a 128 year old gun. What's y'alls thoughts on it? I may buy it but like I said, I'm not a lever guy although I think this one is cool because of the age and caliber. I want a deal but don't want to feel like I'm ripping her off.

Very cool old rifle. Beyond my pay scale in regard to value. Maybe get the Blue Book of Gun Values and see what you can determine.

I always use GunBroker to set values. Takes away the locality, emotionality, and sentimentality.

Then you get to the actual value.

Not readily available.

Ammoseek shows 1 option, at $3.10 per round.

I've been looking on there. Values are scattered even among similar rifles in the same caliber so I was just trying yo settle on something fair. It has no sentimental value to me personally and it's not something I just "want" so I would be buying it just for the neat factor and to help her out.

Probably $1200.00. I may still have some ammo, if you end up buying it.

I have seen this rifle and caliber in collector quality going for about 1800 to 2200. This rifle is in fair condition and not able to determine crown condition so I am guessing about half that.

Yes this is definitely in the well loved category. But due to its age and being a odd ball cartridge I was thinking it's in the $600-$750 range. I love my Marlins and have a few but I've not ran into one that age before. Definitely would be a rifle to hav just to pull out and talk about around a campfire after a good day hunting.
Ammo can be had just have to do some digging. I saw some at Larry's when I was there on Tuesday
