Just figured some of you goobers would like to know. I always look forward to the day the new maps are available. It means to me that it won't be long now.

I hear the campground is not going to open sept 1 at the Barbour wma. Anyone got in solid intel on this?

Heavenly father, to you I pray,
A majestic deer may come my way.
Let my aim be straight and true,
this my Lord, I pray to you.

No solid intel as requested, but I do believe they are about to repave the road from CR49 to headquarters, so that might prevent the campground from opening on time.

Outdoor Alabama email I received today:

Barbour WMA Campgrounds Temporarily Close for Repaving Project

Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources

August 14, 2026

Attention Hunters!

Barbour WMA Campgrounds Temporarily Close for Repaving Project

The Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF) Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) announces the temporary closure of the Barbour Wildlife Management Area (WMA) campgrounds.

The temporary closure is due to the repaving of Christa Drive, one of the WMA’s entrance roads. The repaving project is anticipated to be completed in late October 2026. All other entrance roads to the Barbour WMA will open on September 1. A reopening date for the campgrounds will be announced on the WFF Facebook page when available.

Hunting seasons will open on the scheduled dates and times listed on the Barbour WMA map permit, Outdoor AL mobile app, and online at outdooralabama.com.

WMA map permits and daily permits will be available at the Barbour WMA Shooting Range kiosk. Hunters can also continue to utilize the Outdoor AL app to check in and out of the WMA.

The dang state could have done the road work on Barbour earlier I think. No reason to drag azz till opening day of hunting season to get it done imo. But it don’t surprise me with the state.

It's probably about funding. Funds run out September 31st. And new funds are acquired October 1st.

May not be the reason, but probably is.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.
