That's because 10% of the population earns/controls 90% of the money. Same reason that top 1% of US earners pay 46% of the total US federal taxes and the top 10% pays 72%. That doesnt mean that many many other people do not make a decent living working for others and that their money is not just as important to them as it is to a "richer" man. Approx 60% of US adults have investments in the stock market through individual investment accounts, 401Ks or IRAs. Trust me, the money they have invested in it, definitely means something to them. For most, it is their retirement or at least a large portion of it.


My point wasnt, it isnt important to the people invested in it. My point was, its not the be all end all of the economy, like the government makes it out to be!
Let the market drop 30% tomorrow; and you will feel how important it is.
