90% of the stock market is owned by 10% of the population. It really isnt as important as they make it out to be! That's because 10% of the population earns/controls 90% of the money. Same reason that top 1% of US earners pay 46% of the total US federal taxes and the top 10% pays 72%. That doesnt mean that many many other people do not make a decent living working for others and that their money is not just as important to them as it is to a "richer" man. Approx 60% of US adults have investments in the stock market through individual investment accounts, 401Ks or IRAs. Trust me, the money they have invested in it, definitely means something to them. For most, it is their retirement or at least a large portion of it.
