It is an interesting dichotomy...
If any of us had been alive in the 1840's, 1850's most of the vitriol we see nowadays would have been hurled at the Irish. Take a few minutes and Google "The Know Nothing Party."
However today, good or bad, Irish Americans are quietly living in all aspects of our society and no one gives it a second thought other than occasionally seeing someone's last name and thinking, "Are they of Irish descent?"
