But you still had to throw in a dig about me personally "relying on the government." That wasn't necessary. I've worked my ass off since I was a pre-teen.

And I neither agree nor disagree. I personally lean more Libertarian than most people, but I've never been able to figure out how a society works without a government. Even the Native Americans had a pretty highly structured government before the Europeans arrived.

That was not a dig at you personally. It was directed at anyone who thinks we need the usda to make sure we eat safe. You stated, you dont understand how we make it without any government. Thats eating an elephant, what you have to do is take it bite by bite. So lets start with this bite. Usda, how do we make it without them? Self responsibility is the answer. Make it personal to know where your food comes from, and what your eating. Do what you have to do to make sure its safe. It can be done i know, because i do it. Most of my customers are doing the same thing. They aren't as self reliant as i am, but are working towards it little by little. This can be done with each branch of government. Now as far as getting offended by my comment. I dont know you. You dont know me. So if something i say offends you, because you dont rely on the government, thats on you. And to be honest, IF THATS THE CASE, you get offended way to easily. I feel confident about most people on here who hate me, if they came and met me and hung out for a little while, we would be freinds. Nothing on here anyone has said about me offends me, simply because the person posting it has no idea who i really am!

I'm not offended at all. If I cared what folks on here thought about me, I wouldn't have been on here for 13 years. You were just noting in the sentence before that you actually posted something with "No name calling or put downs." Then you said, "You rely on the government too much." I just thought the two statements were ironic.

I would actually like to come try out some of your food, it sounds great, but it is a haul to get there from either place I live.

I think the challenge with the solution you propose is that it would be extremely difficult to go back to a predominantly agrarian society. I most everyone on here would agree that we, as a population, should care more where our food comes from, but most people are just too busy working their asses off to pay their mortgages, truck, SUV, boat and UTV payments, taking the kids to play ball, doing whatever other recreational activities they do and have very little time to grow their own food and raise their own meats. Just look at how many folks on here admittedly eat fast food on a regular basis.

I could easily get on here and talk about financial independence all day long until I'm blue in the face, but humans are going to human and they're going to do what they want to do and seek instant gratification instead of being a person who lives frugally, saves and invests. I do it I might as well just bang my head against the wall, it's about as effective.

The point is neither you or I are going to get people to change their human behavior. It is a fruitless endeavor.
