I grow my own Jalapenos & tomatoes and I'm allergic to beef. I guess I'll have to drop the lettuce on my homemade turkey tacos

I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin

A 1/3 of them live here already. That handful we shipped back didn't do anything. They are going to shit in the field no matter where you put them.

I think the government does what they want when they want. They start a fire on the left, to draw the rights attention. They control the stock markets and everything else at the end of the day. I’ll farm till the day I meet Jesus, regardless of what beef prices are, what worm or bug is infesting crops or meat etc. I ain’t fussing though. Sold 720 wt at $3.52 a lb. They shipping out today. It’ll pay the bills and get us till next year. Good stuff and proud to see it.

My take is I don’t trust most people. Especially the government. However I do think we need some type of inspections on food no matter where it’s grown. I would trust a private party to do the inspections a little more the I would a government employee. That’s not saying much. I’ve stated on here before that we are fortunate to have people we grew up with and really trust that we can buy beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and even veggies and seafood if I didn’t grow it or catch it myself. We still have to buy things from the store because we live in the real world and know there is no way to produce or make everything it takes to live. I don’t like having control of things but that’s part of life so we have to buy things from the store. I think you should be able to sell your freeze dried products at a farmers market to whoever wants to buy them. However unless I knew you really well, no way would I buy that. For the simple fact I don’t know how it was handled. But because I know enough about you I’d buy anything you have to sell in a heartbeat. I think the USDA has its place but I also think it has way to much control and needs to be pulled back a bunch.

90% of the stock market is owned by 10% of the population. It really isnt as important as they make it out to be!

Rolling in it!!! Did you have to carry a couple dump trailers with you to carry all that money back home. Gonna take a lot of coffee cans to hold that.

It is when one of your retirement plans are tied up in it. Stock market needs to keep on climbing.

But you still had to throw in a dig about me personally "relying on the government." That wasn't necessary. I've worked my ass off since I was a pre-teen.

And I neither agree nor disagree. I personally lean more Libertarian than most people, but I've never been able to figure out how a society works without a government. Even the Native Americans had a pretty highly structured government before the Europeans arrived.

That was not a dig at you personally. It was directed at anyone who thinks we need the usda to make sure we eat safe. You stated, you dont understand how we make it without any government. Thats eating an elephant, what you have to do is take it bite by bite. So lets start with this bite. Usda, how do we make it without them? Self responsibility is the answer. Make it personal to know where your food comes from, and what your eating. Do what you have to do to make sure its safe. It can be done i know, because i do it. Most of my customers are doing the same thing. They aren't as self reliant as i am, but are working towards it little by little. This can be done with each branch of government. Now as far as getting offended by my comment. I dont know you. You dont know me. So if something i say offends you, because you dont rely on the government, thats on you. And to be honest, IF THATS THE CASE, you get offended way to easily. I feel confident about most people on here who hate me, if they came and met me and hung out for a little while, we would be freinds. Nothing on here anyone has said about me offends me, simply because the person posting it has no idea who i really am!

I'm not offended at all. If I cared what folks on here thought about me, I wouldn't have been on here for 13 years. You were just noting in the sentence before that you actually posted something with "No name calling or put downs." Then you said, "You rely on the government too much." I just thought the two statements were ironic.

I would actually like to come try out some of your food, it sounds great, but it is a haul to get there from either place I live.

I think the challenge with the solution you propose is that it would be extremely difficult to go back to a predominantly agrarian society. I most everyone on here would agree that we, as a population, should care more where our food comes from, but most people are just too busy working their asses off to pay their mortgages, truck, SUV, boat and UTV payments, taking the kids to play ball, doing whatever other recreational activities they do and have very little time to grow their own food and raise their own meats. Just look at how many folks on here admittedly eat fast food on a regular basis.

I could easily get on here and talk about financial independence all day long until I'm blue in the face, but humans are going to human and they're going to do what they want to do and seek instant gratification instead of being a person who lives frugally, saves and invests. I do it I might as well just bang my head against the wall, it's about as effective.

The point is neither you or I are going to get people to change their human behavior. It is a fruitless endeavor.

That's because 10% of the population earns/controls 90% of the money. Same reason that top 1% of US earners pay 46% of the total US federal taxes and the top 10% pays 72%. That doesnt mean that many many other people do not make a decent living working for others and that their money is not just as important to them as it is to a "richer" man. Approx 60% of US adults have investments in the stock market through individual investment accounts, 401Ks or IRAs. Trust me, the money they have invested in it, definitely means something to them. For most, it is their retirement or at least a large portion of it.

My point wasnt, it isnt important to the people invested in it. My point was, its not the be all end all of the economy, like the government makes it out to be!

This post started with yall shipped back all them Mexicans.
Then they poisoned our food.
Then the USDA are not good inspectors.

Did the Mexicans that got shipped back go to work for Taylor farms? How do we know this?
I’m not involved with the USDA, do they ever stop or prevent issues like this? Do we have the stats on their wins vs losses? I don’t make emotional decisions. I like to collect the data and decide for myself what level of risk I am comfortable with.

Like any normal person I want healthy safe food And try to buy local when I can. I go to the farmers market every weekend. I’ll say I keep paying 10 dollars for watermelons there that absolutely suck. I bought a 5 dollar watermelon at Aldi and it’s the best one I’ve had this year. Does this mean local growers can’t grow good watermelons? There is also a local guy selling honey at the farmers market. That honey is nearly clear. It’s because it has a lot of sugar water in it. He was feeding heavily before he harvested. That guy is ripping people off. These look like fine upstanding Americans selling their local goods to local people.

This seems more like a personal issue than anything substantial. I do respect your opinion and truly appreciate you expressing it. So thanks.
