How is it going?

I'm stuck at 225# for 7 reps on my bench and I'd like to go up without killing myself.

Do you use a progressive overload approach to all your lifts?

I’ve been increasing my weight by 5-10 lbs every week and I haven’t stopped yet but I started very conservatively and haven’t wanted to kill myself either. Last thing I need is hurting myself in the gym. There have been a couple times I’ve backed off when I developed pain in my shoulder. I assume between the peptides and creatine I’m getting somewhere. One of the good things with CJC, it’s supposed to help with muscle recovery/soreness. I don’t know if I can tell a difference there or not.

Hell yeah! I do 1 or 2 warm-up sets and then I do 2 worksets of everything. I leave everything on the table with those two worksets. That means I train to failure (RPE of 10) on both sets. Depending on the exercise I may work in a rep range of 6-12 reps. Once I get to the number of reps I have defined as the upper limit for that exercise, then I add 2.5 or 5 pounds to the bar or weight stack and start over how ever many I can get with the new weight and keep trying for just one or two more reps each week.

Take my bench for instance. When I first loaded 225 on the bar I was only able to get about 5 reps. Now I'm up to 7 reps. When I get to 10 reps at 225#, I'm going to put 230# on there and start over and work back up to 10 reps. Rinse and repeat. I do that for everything.

Boho and I didn't used to work out together and she was not making much progress. Once we moved down here and started going to the gym together, she was kind of shocked at the level of effort I've been coaching out of her, but you know what, she's really starting to make progress now. When we started she could barely bench the bar. I'm hopefully gonna have her benching 2 plates within a year if she doesn't poison my food first.

At my age it's a slow process, but I'm kind of a nerd, so I like the record keeping aspect of it.

I remember those days... You will be in the "beginner" stage for the first few years, but that's good, because if you are consistent and keep records, you are going to be making those "newbie gains" during those years. Once you get into the intermediate and advanced stages, those gains are going to be much more incremental and slower to come by.

I'm an old man and don't do any TRT or any of that stuff, so when I can just get one more rep than I did last week that's a big deal. When you think about it, that's actually pretty good. If you did 9 reps last week and this week you did 10... Hell that's a 10% increase in total workload. Nothing to sneeze at.

I’m a nerd too on stuff like this. I use an app that tracks it and increase the weight based on feedback. How long have you been stuck at 7 reps on 225? I wonder if you went ahead and increased the weight and did a couple of weeks with 3-4 reps at more weight would it push you past the wall. I used to do this in high school and college to push past my max when max day was ahead. Not sure it would work with 7 reps but it may. It is more geared towards producing strength quickly vs a strength/stamina combo.

That's what I'm going to do. I'm going to go ahead ann bump it up on Monday (Bench press day) to 230 or 235 and just rock that for a little while maybe doing only 3-4 reps. Something like that.

I've only been stuck at 225 for about 2 weeks.

Thanks. Age is just a number. I try not to focus on my age, but instead try to focus on constant improvement.

If you look at your original article, he wasnt selling peptides. He was selling test.

On the subject of peptides, they are incredibly safe if protocols are used in my experience. I am using Reta, NAD+, KLOW and Tesamorelin.

I have dropped from 245 to 215, avoided having surgery on my partially torn achilles, sport piss missile erections and have a tan like an african. Other than that, they suck. smile

For you, MOTS-C would help with endurance and output. I would also look at Tesamorelin as well.

And….from chat GPT

What are peptides made of?

Think of amino acids as LEGO bricks.

* 🧱 A few LEGO bricks snapped together = a peptide
* 🏠 Hundreds or thousands of LEGO bricks snapped together = a protein (like muscles, hair, or skin)

So peptides are just small proteins.

Why do people take peptide medicines?

Sometimes the body doesn’t send enough of these messages on its own. Scientists have created peptide medicines that can help send extra messages for certain medical purposes, such as:

* Helping wounds heal
* Replacing hormones the body is missing
* Treating some diseases
* In some cases, helping with weight loss or growth hormone-related conditions

An easy way to remember it

Imagine your body is a construction site.

* Cells = the construction workers 👷
* Proteins = the buildings they build 🏢
* Peptides = the foreman walking around giving instructions 📋

Without instructions, the workers don’t know what to do. Peptides help keep everyone working together.

Can you explain more on avoiding surgery for your achillies. I have struggled with mine for the past year. I can't seem to shake it. Always feels like a golf ball and swollen at the end of the day

I was diagnosed with the partially torn achilles early this year. Injured it last october. Dr said to avoid surgery until I could stand it no more. I was already peps to lose weight. I researched and started taking BPC157/TB 500 along with cycles of the tesamorelin.

So far, the pain is gone since I started minus one flare up. I can walk 1-2 miles a day and not have any issues.

There are some peptides that help with getting blood flow to injured soft tissue that speeds up the healing process. Do you know why your Achillies hurts?

I’m about to start that same stack for my shoulder. It gets inflamed from past injuries and now that I’m lifting weights it won’t stay healthy.

personally know alot of people using these & most say its been life changing (in a good way) .. But like any other synthetic man made drug, there are side effects & alot of long term unknowns. Alot of concerns with the cell repair peptides in that it could possibly repair the good & the bad (cancer).. Almost 90% of this stuff comes from china so that alone is enough to keep me away. Who knows what your really injecting

The very first paragraph in the article...

A federal judge on Thursday sentenced the owner of a peptide company to nearly six years in prison after finding he built a massive business by deceiving customers and selling products that were adulterated with steroids.

He was selling peptides that were adulterated, by adding steroids into them.

I knew some people on here took peptides, most of which are not approved by the FDA for humans, so I was concerned. My intention was twofold: To inform people that what's in the little vial may not be what you think it is, and for myself to understand why you guys take them.

If your sold out on peptides that's great. I have no problem with you or other people taking them. I personally don't know enough about them so I'm just sticking with good food and exercise. It's been studied in humans fo millenia.

I hope that sums it up...

Thanks. It was your highly informed posts mainly that got me interested in peptides and looking into them in the first place. Mainly because, well... I'm getting old, and weightlifting ain't easy. Although, praise the Lord, I'm still recovering really good.

My thing is, I'm really healthy at this point and I don't want to do something thinking it will make myself better only to make myself worse. It's kind of like when decent looking older gals, go in for plastic surgery to reclaim their youthful looks only to have it backfire on them and they come out looking hideous.

I totally get that. If it ain’t broke…

Funny you bring up the plastic surgery thing. My wife worked for a facial plastic surgery place before she became a kids pastor. You could always tell the women who didn’t listen to doctors and thought that more was better. Her boss wouldn’t do a lot of surgeries on patients because he knew the results would be bad. Those patients usually went and it done somewhere else, and then came back to him wanting him to fix their face lol.

Research it a lot. Look hard at all the negatives. Harder at the negatives than the positives. Then if you want to try some, start extremely slow and low. Get bloodwork done every month. Look at the results of the bloodwork yourself and educate yourself on what it means. Don’t just let your doctor look at it and say “it’s all normal”.
