Started having severe pain starting in my neck, around my scapula, through my left shoulder and down my arm about 3 1/2 weeks ago. It showed up out of the blue with no warning. I’ve had broken bones, stitches and torn tendon from bone before but this SHITT is unbearable! Since this started I have really questioned a lot of things. I don’t take pain pills and muscle relaxers so ive been eating ibuprofen and prednisone. In the last few weeks I have lost an insane amount of muscle mass and strength. There was about 7 consecutive days that couldn’t even sit down to eat a meal. Averaging 2-3 hours of broken sleep each night isn’t helping. I’m betting my left side is 50%-60% weaker than before. Feels like I’m wasting away and I was in pretty damn good shape before this.

I had to have an mri done and my cervical nerve is being choked by 2 buldging discs and a bone spur. Today I had a cervical epidural steroid injection guided by ultrasound in the inflamed area where the stenosis is. I should know in a couple days if it’s going to help at all. Most things I read on the internet point towards temp relief. I can tell you right now, this is no quality of life. I’m really hoping if any of you have had to deal with this, you can give me a little more positive results that you’ve had.

I know that pain and discomfort well. It led to my lack of sleep disorder a year or a so ago. Its your c-4-c-5 neck joint putting pressure on the nerve and it may be distended from the discs bulging. You can get it fixed with risky surgery or just PT it out.
I chose to PT it out and I probably should have done the surgery considering the insanity that was caused from lack of sleep over several weeks.

I hope they get you figured out and fixed up but be very careful with that ibuprofen. It's really hard on the stomach lining.

Mine is c6 c7 which is why it’s going down my left tricept and top of the forearm. Constant pain in to my lat like I got kicked by a horse.

Yes sir indeed. I bet I have taken a total of 40 ibuprofen, advil, Tylenol etc. etc. combined in 10 years before this. I’m taking about 5 or 6 a day.

Not the same thing, I guess, but I had a pinched nerve in my neck years ago. It basically shut down my left triceps. After several trips to a chiropractor, he finally pulled my neck one day and I instantly knew the pinching was gone. Everything was back to normal and has been ever since. Maybe chiropractic might work for you too.

You are dealing with what I experience. I got flipped out the back of an 28 wheeler that pulled off the loading dock as I was going in to unload him. The ibuprofen and stuff help but it is bad for your liver. They have me on Mobic, Gabapentin and Duloxatine. If you are talking about the shots where they put you semi asleep they have helped me. I can only sleep on my left side and only till about 3 am . I hope you get some relief because I know how you feel

I opted to do mine with no sedation. I figured ain’t no needle on earth could cause me more pain than I already have. I do have gabapentin but honestly it makes me feel weird. I was awake for damn near 50 straight hours and took one. I said something to my wife that neither of us understood and I have I know idea why I even tried. Evidently I was outside walking around at 3:00 the other morning in my neighborhood according to her and the ring camera.

I had the same issue mine was disc 5 and 6 started off with just shoulder pain. In order to get my MRI I had to go to physical therapy and that made it worse that caused my whole arm to start going numb and that’s what I couldn’t stand. Had the shots no help and had 2 different kinds of nerve blocks with no difference. I ended up having those discs replaced and I’m 100% better I went fishing 2 days after and back to work after 2 weeks, could have went sooner.

Had similar pain - C6-C7 Disk split apart and was compressing my spine 50%. Had surgery pretty quickly and felt better as soon as I awoke.
Best wishes and hope you get relief. Folks say you forget the pain, I have not and compare that pain to anything else I have going on with lower lumbar or knees. It was really brutal. I feel for you.

I've got same issue. Had a nerve block done and started sleeping in a cervical collar every night. I won't sleep without the collar now. It has helped tremendously.

I did weeks of therapy for that mess. It felt like I had been hit with a ball-bat in the shoulder blade, tingling down the arm etc... To this day it pulls two fingers together on my left hand. Get the therapy.

I'm avoiding the surgery for as long as possible because there are many things that can go wrong. It is a high risk surgery.
The massaging shower head and disciplined neck stretching exercises have helped a lot. I had to learn how to do those correctly but if you do them under the shower head on the massage setting it makes a huge difference.

Lot of truth in what skinny said but still be careful. In my case building up neck muscles help also. I have a lot of arthritis in my neck and the doctors say they can move the pain but not eliminate it. The choiropractor used to help but they want risk it now. There is also a temptation to take muscle relaxers and mask it. I have been guilty of that then you pay for it that night. Mine as got so bad I went and looked at 80 acres of swamp last week that had a bad beaver problem. I told the guy I would do it but laying there in pain at 3 the next morning I decided I wasn't able. Sitting around drives me crazier than I already am though lol
