I recall mines near Lake Martin. At Lake Martin on Goldmine road. Below Martin Dam. Yeah if you pan anywhere on the shore of Lake Martin you will find at least a speck of gold.

My grandfather used to pan and dredge for gold. I went with him a lot as a kid. We lived in Coosa county but I don’t know where all we went. I know we went to Hillabee Creek at least once. And somewhere with a train track running over it. Always found gold flakes but never “struck it rich” to say. He did get enough at least to make my grandmother a golden pendant.
It’s probably been about 15-20 years since he’s went though, he’s just too old now at 88. Got too hard to load everything solo and his buddy who he teamed up with a good bit passed away.

I recall mines near Lake Martin. I’ve been to several mines on land surrounding Lake Martin years ago bit horizontal and vertical mines. The horizontal ones still have concrete blocking for the cable car system and some old cables through the woods. Tons of old bean cans that were about 2”x5” laying everywhere around flooring from camp sites. Hard to get to the without pissing someone off nowadays I would imagine.

At one time someone punched the water column and flooded the lower cave leaving the track system as few cars that were still there in the 70’s- early 80’s. The was several vertical shafts over near chucks marina but there’s also one that looks like a gnomes door like a little hobbit. There's probably tons of gold that's washed down from the mountains and valleys into those Alabama rivers and streams over the centuries just laying there waiting to be discovered .
