Generally speaking, how is the deer hunting between Troy and Sandfield, Alabama? Numbers, quality, rut dates?
Oddly, AI is saying the rut is Nov. 6-12th???
This seems off to me as rifle season doesn't even open until the week before Thanksgiving.
I've always believed the rut in most of this part of Alabama was usually mid to late January. Your thoughts.....

I'd say the peak of the rut is more like late Jan thru early Feb. I'm about 25 miles from there in south Montgomery County

good memories huh CNC? Lead, according to the alabama rut map, AI beez dead wrong. Jan 9 - Jan 24 peak breeding which means you'll have chasing still going on til the end of the season. Buddy has a big lease just east of Troy that has great numbers and good quality but I'm not sure about north toward Sandfield. Like most everywhere in AL, I'm sure it is highly dependent on your neighbors and what's around you. Good deer around Troy and most areas in south Bullock.

That's what I thought as well and your experience mirrors mine. We're looking at some land up that way and it is bordered by timber company land on the west and north sides.

Plenty of good deer in there. The rut is mid to late Jan. Dont hunt the bottom or the tops of the hills, hunt the area in between.

I hunt about 13 miles west of Sandfield and the rut is definitely in Jan.

I hunt about 16 miles due east of there. You'll get some slight variations in timing but rut usually kicks up around Robert E. Lee day and can run through early Feb. Deer numbers should be strong and if neighbors practice trigger restraint, the area can produce some nice deer. Proximity to Troy is great for supplies and the gas station in Banks has a good breakfast.

I like Chicken Shack in Luverne when I'm there.
