The problem now is there are so many “influencers” and people who have gotten rich off stocks, crypto, and shit or foreign wealth, that they flock to these places and don’t respect the rules and a $100 fine isn’t gonna do shit to deter them. It’s just the cost of doing business. Jeff Bezos pays something like $1000 a day in fines to have his hedges around his house taller than the code allows.

$25k is a bit ridiculous but go somewhere like Auburn University and observe all the rich kids that just rack up tickets and/or have their car towed for parking in Class A/Faculty/Disablity spots because it’s easier to just have daddy pay it than walk an extra 500’.

So we’re going to super penalize the poor ole guy that is just barely feeding his family to hurt the rich kids?

Discernment doesn't factor in. The person with the dog violated a rule/law, and is going to be punished for it. You seem to think as long as people don't violate rules/laws that aren't major, that is socially acceptable. So I could come visit one of your neighbors and park my car in your yard, and leave trash when I go home, because after all, its not like I set your house on fire.

Or is it only the rules/laws you don't agree with that are fine to ignore, but the ones that matter, that's something else entirely. I think we all know the answer.

Like I said, $25k is pretty steep. But I bet it was well advertised, and they knew what they were doing.

The “state” has a value on game animals. That’s why you can’t just (legally) shoot the deer in your garden eating your tomato plant in July, without a permit. And before you get that permit they will weigh the cost of your tomato plant vs the value of the deer, and probably tell you to try fencing or something first. You may not even get the permit at all, if not enough damage is caused.

So imagine a well tracked bear in a wildlife refuge that’s birthed many cubs in that refuge over the years, and someone not following the rules makes a possibly avoidable incident become unavoidable.. Dog lunges at bear, bear kills dog, now bears angry and attacks humans, rescue is involved, bear has to be put down.. just one hypothetical scenario.

Yeah $25k is steep but now a lot more people who haven’t even been to Banff know about that fine, and know that they are serious about it.

And like the other guy who was a park ranger said, he stopped the same woman 3 times. Some people just think they are the main character and won’t listen and real consequences have to hit.

And a lot will stay away... If they have an extreme fine for minor crap, what else do they have waiting on unsuspecting visitors? My first thought after reading the article was "screw canada", I'll never go there. Let's face it, the place is run by a bunch of leftists who value wildlife more than people. Every incident is the human's fault because "we are in their habitat"... What a load of garbage. They are the same people that tell you to carry bear spray but they go in with Benelli shotguns to "investigate" after one of the dang bears mauls/kills someone. Hopefully these two learned to put the stupid cellphone up, got back home to the US, and forgot to pay canada's ghey little fine.

They should have had the dog leashed. The fine should have been reasonable. It wasn't.

yep sadly the game wardens are just as woke here. they put collars on bears to protect the bears and prosecute us, while knowing good and well those bears can kill any kids out playing in the woods.
