My grew up shooting her dad's 7mm mag. Remington 700 synthetic stock. She loves it but we moved away and she can't borrow it anymore. Want to find her a similar rifle. Who make a good bolt action 7 mag that won't break the bank?

I would buy a 280 Ackley or a 7mm Backcountry instead, if you want the same horsepower with lower recoil.

If she's only shooting whitetails, buy a 7mm-08 and run Barnes 120 grain TTSX. Deer won't know the difference inside 300 yards, but your wife sure will.

Ruger chambers the American in 7mm-08, as do a dozen other rifle companies. One of our favorite whitetail cartridges. My wife and I have killed a pile with 7mm-08. I go play with other calibers, but I never leave the 7-08. Just bought a new one for myself 2 weeks ago. I think that one makes about 15 that have lived here for a few days or more.

Tikka T3 or Ruger American.

Tikkas have an outstanding reputation because they live up to their expectations. I am not a brand loyal person, but Tikkas are at the top of my favorite’s list! They are also very affordable and used ones can be found quite easily.

Thanks. How does the Tikka compare to the Ruger American? Anyone have experience with both platforms?

Tikka action will be much smoother and accuracy will be superior to the Ruger American. Tikka will also cost at least $150 more.

If it matters to you (does to me), the Tikka has to be "off safe" to cycle the bolt. Add a Timney trigger and that goes away.

I'm not sure the Ruger American is even currently chambered in 7mm Rem Mag.

I would look at Howa or CVA for a cheaper 7mm Rem Mag.

As was stated, Tikka is a top pick! I own several and ALL of them shoot very well!!!!!

I've got a Howa Game Pro 2.0 7mm Mag I might be interested in parting with if interested.

When is our hardon over a Tikka going to do down on this board?

Tikka ain't more accurate than any other rifle made.

Look at a Weatherby or ______. Lots of options in 7 Mag. And stick with 7 Mag there is no reason to fix something that isn't broken with a different cartridge that will be gone in 5 years.

If money was a concern, I would check and see if there is any Tikka T3x’s left on Eurooptic. They had some amazing deals out there at one time. I also believe the Tikka T3x to be a superior rifle to the Ruger American. Not that I do not like the Ruger American. I think they are a great entry level rifle. However, for just a little more money, the Tikka T3x has a smoother more refined finish. It too is an entry level rifle that has great value and I am a big fan of the Tikka T3x.

I don’t know your history with the 7mag. It is indeed a great cartridge and has been around a long time. However there are some great 7mm offerings out there these days. The .280 AI and the 7PRC are two of those and I do think before jumping into a 7mag, just taking a look at those offerings maybe worth your time.

Good luck finding what makes you happy!!

Best advice yet. After I darned blew a couple of deer in half, I realized that my 7/08 with Nosler Partitions or Ballistic tips killed them just as dead and the ammo was cheap enough to practice with.

If it’s only a she shooting it - lower caliber may be good as mentioned above - 308 not bad recoil either or 2506

I have had tika and bergara. I sold my tika because the bergara bolt felt better and I could reduce trigger poundage easier and take poundage lower and bergara shot tighter and did not come with a plastic clip. May have kept a tika in 308 though - think 308 also better caliber for me

Ai says tika the best out there

My model 700 Remington 270 also shot better. Maybe I never found right bullet for tika

I mean technically a 7mm Rem Mag kills them faster.
