A couple of thoughts:
Like others have alluded too, I'm not impressed with his poaching skills if he did it as much as he did in Jackson Co. and that was the best he could come up with.
His sentence and fine may sound light but I imagine it would have been worse if he wasn't looking at 30 years for Felon in Possession then the Feds love it when the cases are already made for them so they may bring charges too and the gun charges bring mandatory time in the Federal pen. Bottom line, there is not a deer out there worth what he's dealing with, especially not those deer. He sounds like he's just one of those dudes that simply enjoys breaking the law and that is his main motivation.
