Statins improve 5 year survival rate by 1% over not ever taking the medication. I've never heard a doctor tell the truth about that number but that's because they probably don't even know it. Are the mile long list of side effects worth the 1%? That drug has so much bad science and manipulated research behind it I'd personally be looking into how the drug trials and research was done before I'd trust the drug dealing doctors to know what they are pushing.

About half of people that experience heart issues have "normal" cholesterol levels. Statins are commonly prescribed, yet heart attacks are still a leading cause of death. People with high ldl live as long or longer that those with normal ldl levels.

Statins may be linked to alzheimer's and dementia. Lots of other negatives. I won't take them. But it is a choice you have to make for you

Current scientific evidence shows no strong or consistent link between taking statins and an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease or dementia. In fact, large-scale medical reviews and studies suggest that statins are safe for cognition and may even help lower the risk of neurodegenerative conditions.
What the Research Shows
No overall increased risk: Large systematic reviews and meta-analyses with millions of participants indicate that statins do not cause dementia.
Potential protective benefits: Many observational studies report a neutral or reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia among people who take statins for high cholesterol.
Temporary, rare side effects: A small number of patients experience brief memory loss or confusion when starting a statin, but these symptoms are temporary and stop immediately after discontinuing or changing the medication.
Heart and brain connection: Managing midlife cholesterol with medications like statins protects blood vessels in the brain, which supports overall long-term cognitive health

This!!!! Yes!!!! I will not ever take a statin.

My doctor prescribed me statins. I told her I wasn't going to take them. I'm 65 but a very fit guy. Cardio and weightlifting 3x a week.

She told me, "Then go take a Calcium Test and if you score a zero on it, I'll shut up about it." Went a took the calcium test down here in Foley. He took one look at me and said, "If you score a zero I don't need to see you again." Took the test and scored a zero. We went and got some pizza and beer to celebrate.

I admire your for you fitness at your age. The best thing you did was the calcium score. When I was in cardiac rehab from bypass I was exercising beside some guys that were 80 and out of shape and beside guys that were 38 and run marathons. Those young guys and ladies couldn’t out exercise their genetics. Calcium scores can catch a lot of those issues.
