We have plenty of it. You just have to know where to look. Gold rides an iron horse. Any quartz you find with iron staining could contain Gold. There are a few Gold mines that are about to start. Also there is a sizable Graphite mine in the works next to Coosa WMA. People are more pissed about the graphite than anything. I remember reading an article that states that most of the gold in Alabama is bonded into the rock in such a way that recovering it was not economically feasible. Not that the ore is hard to mine, but separating it from the ore is very expensive requiring crazy amounts of electricity. I believe this kind of gold is mainly in the area around Clay, Randolph, Tallapoosa and Chambers counties that have lots of Mica and Quartz.

The southern Appalachian chain has a lot of gold that has yet to be mined. Its all in hard rock and quartz but its there. Because the price is high and it looks to be going higher old mines will be opening back up. They will say they are mining quartz but the gold is the real target and the quartz just pays the mining costs. The Tallapoosa drainage has more than the Coosa drainage and several mine entrances are on or rather under Lake Martin. There used to be two US Mints, one in Charlotte and the other in Dehlonega, Georgia. The gold coins minted at those mints fetch high prices on the collector market. There was one of the spinoff Gold Rush shows that did an episode about a gold mine in AL. People would go on the weekend to mine for a membership fee or something similar. Pretty interesting as I wasn’t aware there were gold mines in AL

My brother used to prospect all the time in those areas. There supposed to be a bunch over near Armuchee, GA. too. Of course Dahlonega, GA was really big before the Civil War. The gold museum there is worth a visit. Really the whole town is a pretty cool place to go for a weekend.

We have gold on our property in Chilton County. It's very fine in the creek and not much there. Guys came through years ago looking for oil and said that our rocks had gold in them but would cost a fortune to mine. There is and old gold mine maybe a quarter mile from my house my grandad told me about. Said the old guy dug and dug and one day just disappeared. Probably 100 years ago.

? for Skinny, Ark has diamonds , does Alabama ? Some have been found but its rare and they are always detached from a major formation. i.e. "There aint a good place to good look for diamonds in Alabama".

There was in boom town in northern Tallapoosa County in the mid 1800's called Goldville. What's left of the town is still there. We had a lease up there when I was a kid. Gold mines and pits were scattered around the hills up there. Pretty interesting story. Also, mines in the Hog Mountain area of Tallapoosa County.

Because of the new push for rare earth metals a lot of the gold mining territory is going to be mined soon. Rare earth metals and gold tend to cluster together. A mining company can claim that they are digging for any number of rare earths and the gold will be a by-product of that.

My family used to own a gold mine in Ga. In th early 1800s. Must not have bee much gold in it. I hunted a lot in Jackson County and wondered if anyone had ever tried panning in those creeks.

Great grandfather had gold on his property in cleburn county.
He had a good nugget found in one of the creeks about the size of your thumb he kept in a mason jar with his silver coins When I was a kid I found some spots where they prospected a long time ago in Cleburne Co. My grandad told me that there was some gold found along the Terrapin before he was born but didn’t know exactly when it was. He was born in the early 1930’s so guessing it was sometime in the 1800’s.
