That 2.7 was a beast and my favorite of the 3 engines I had. The v9 was the worste the 2.7 was unbeleivable and the 3.5 is my 2nd favotite of the 3. The 2.7 and 3.5 toe my 21 ft bass boat as good and possibly bettet than the v8

Sadly, yes. Prices are why I went with the mid size Colorado. And I love it BTW. There a couple of guys at the gym that drive the GMC version of that truck and the 4x4 versions look bad ass. Great looking truck. I was hoping they had a naturally aspirated V6, but I think they are only available in the turbo 4 banger. Folks like bells and whistles and that is why vehicles have more and more jacking the price up as "standard". I remember asking if it had electric windows, cruise and air. I'm surprised dashcams haven't been exploited as a wow feature.

Those 3.0 duramaxs use a plastic oil pump chain. Why not use a metal one? Maybe they’ve changed it back 🤷♂️
Ford uses similar chains in some of their motors too.
I like those GMC versions of the Colorado and wished the V6 didn’t have VVT. Their track record with those is spotty. Fords 5.0 uses oil between changes as well. Something about vacuum pressures etc…
Trying to meet CAFE standards set by Obama has given us less durability and higher cost with very little in return for mpgs

Soooo, any idea what your household income was at the time of purchasing said $34,000 house?
According to Google the median household income in 1988 was $27,230 which would be 1.25X the US median household income for a $34,000 purchase price. If I remember correctly my take home pay was about $800 every 2 weeks back when we bought that house.

Only 2 things have gone wrong with it in 105k miles. The main screen, which I documented fixing myself on here, and the oil filter housing cracked, whish is super common on the Pentastar V6 and I had a mechanic shop replace that for $600. We replaced the factory plastic part with an all aluminum aftermarket piece. Not other problems since then. That truck has great power 305 horses and 3:55 gears so it gets on down the road pretty quickly. 7 seconds 0-60. I timed it. It will also tow 7400 pounds. It gets great fuel economy. We average about 22 mpg running back and forth from the cabin to the beach house at about 80 mph on the interstate. Plus is super comfortable for road trips. Boho prefers taking trips in the truck to taking her top of the line Mazda CX-5. So at this time I have a hard time thinking of selling it and buying something less capable, smaller and probably no better fuel economy, and certainly more complicated, just because it looks newer and better looking. Which would be a new GMC Canyon or better yet a new Nissan Frontier, but I don't think I would gain anything over my truck by getting one of those other than a slightly smaller truck and a much smaller savings account.

The Frontier would get 10-20%ish worse fuel mileage and you would give up like 200lbs of towing so negligible there but a decrease nonetheless
The problem I have with “Ram” is who hell are they.
I’m Mopar this week.I’m Dodge tomorrow. Call me Chrysler on Thursday and Daimler Chrysler on Friday. Next Friday I’m FCA. On Saturday I’m Stellantis. In June I’m Ram.
That said my Dad has got a 2009 Dodge(in their Dodge Days) 1500 that came with a lifetime powertrain warranty.
About a year ago it got a brand new engine.

Seems like might be better off keeping my 2007 f150 and just replace engine and transmission as needed. Seems like all the new trucks have problems from talking to my old time mechanic.

Yup it seems like there is substantial gambling involved and getting lucky. Finding a well sorted low mileage 5.7 Tundra would be solid but downside to them is expect 13MPG on a good day.

Young people need to work harder and stop buying $6 coffee! By Gawt! They should take peanut butter sammiches to work! $20 an hour is a lot of money! I agree that inflation has outpaced income but the further we get away from the generation that lived through the depression, the more wasteful we’ve become. I was raised to conserve everything. Lights off, thermostat up (or down in winter), reuse everything possible (sandwich bags, tin foil, styrofoam cups, plastic containers just to name a few). Younger folks now are wasteful (using disposable utensils once for every day eating, throwing out food just because it is past the best by date, drinking bottled water for all your water intake and the list goes on. One can make the few dollars they have go further by conserving what they have and buying what they can afford. Its like my great grandmother said, “a woman can throw more out the back door than a man can bring in the front.

Finding a well sorted low mileage 5.7 Tundra would be solid but downside to them is expect 13MPG on a good day. NOW is the time to be looking for THAT truck while gas prices are up. I bought my 2011 Tundra under these conditions/circumstances and got a great deal from it's 2nd owner. It's not a daily driver so the gas price is not a deterrent for me.
