So... Got Pigs

What should I plant for a food plot that won't encourage the pigs to root up the entire plot. Them eating it isn't as big of a concern as the giant holes that they will make. The area is sandy/dry so maybe they won't be as apt to wallow.

I assume planting root veges is a no-no.

They’re going to root holes in your food plots. Don’t matter what you plant. They’re not only rooting up tubers and roots, but the soft-bodied grubs, ground dwelling snakes and anything else they can eat in the soil. Getting rid of the hogs is the only solution.

They don’t completely ruin ours. Just accept the fact they will do damage to them and try to kill them all

You might think about putting a fence around your plots if hogs are a constant problem.......That's what I've seen some folks doing in the worst areas around here.....It might cost a little money upfront but you're about to spend time and money on battling them into perpetuity anyways......

They will root around or not independent of what’s planted. But I’d forego chufa and you’ll struggle with beans as well.
They are regular on my plots and mostly graze the cereals and clover down like the deer do without much damage, usually.

They will destroy a plot to eat nut grass.

They don’t root in my fields very often but I only plant grains and clover. They will absolutely destroy any patch of dewberry growing in my old fields.

We don’t have hogs here (YET) but I have battled them from Union Springs to Camden to Marion. They will destroy everything and they will eat anything. They can rub all over a greasy creosote pole and eat corn soaked in diesel fuel. They breed all year and multiply exponentially. The ONLY option you have is to trap and kill every single one you find. Every single one you can. By any means necessary.

I think that I have to learn to live with them.

Is that the stuff Dr. Steve Ditchkoff talks about? I listened to him a while ago on the Mossy Oak Gamekeepers podcast talking about some new poison being developed.

I’m pretty sure I’d rather have pigs, on my land, than people or poison.

Not much you can do to keep them out of your plots. They will hit a food plot for no visible reason and it'll look like its been carpet bombed. I would not have active corn feeders if you have hogs since that serves as an attractant.

In some ways, the best alternative may be to establish a feeding site for the pigs... with soured corn and plenty of wallow area.

Just make your neighbors are far enough away from the property so if the dogs get in it, they die before they make it back home.

I know a dude who never had hogs until he started baiting with corn and now he's ate up with them. I told him not to bait but now he's paying the price.
