My wife has been wanting a SXS for the farm, for a long time now. I just sold a load of calves, and probably have enough cash to pay for one outright.
Know nothing about them.
Will be used for working around farm, maybe a little hunting, and riding the grandkids around.
New or used? Where to buy if I do new? Size?
Polaris Ranger, Honda Pioneer, Can Am Defender, or another brand?
Just now about to start reading and researching about them.
Y'all steer me along the right path please.

I am a fan of the Honda Pioneer 1000-5. Can have a bed when you want to work, or fold up the seats for more passengers, while not being so long you need two zip codes to turn around. Only negatives I've seen: sitting in the rear seats above the engine gets hot quickly, the transmission is kinda noisy, and the doors and bed rattle.

I like my pioneer 700, but it does rattle like mentioned above. I’m sure I could figure out a way to silence it, but I don’t use it for hunting

If you like eating dust go with the pioneer. I love mine but the dust will eat you alive. Also the motor is located in just the right spot to get super hot between the backrest and the seat. It's great in the winter time and not dusty. A buddy of mine has
the Polaris Ranger with the cab and A/C. If i ever go with another one I would definitely check it out.

I have a Honda pioneer 1000-5 and a 1000 ranger . They both work great but each has their own characteristics.
Honda seems more solid , but the engine heat is terrible . Not a lot of aftermarket doors . Runs like a top /tight . Using the bed is not easy . Anything loose corn /seed falls through the cracks for the seats . If I was buying for a farm I would get a Polaris ranger either the 900 or 1000 . The old 800 has the same heat issues .
Polaris does farm work and towing like a champ . The 1000 ranger isn’t stable at road speeds . Millions of aftermarket and no heat in the cab . I would drive them both , the real decision is what are you using it for and go from there .

I bought a Kawasaki Mule Crew, basic model after owning 2 Polaris Rangers. Rides great plenty of power and load capacity. I had way too many electrical problems with the Rangers. Only use it on hunt clubs no mud or road riding.

I have an 08 JD Gator and it’s been a great one. Electric dump, 4x4 plenty of power. Added bonus it’s got the bare minimum of electronics and unnecessary crap. I won’t buy a new one, not any brand. Too much computer garbage.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

I know a guy that’s got a Can Am Defender Limited that’s been babied and still under warranty…
In all seriousness, they are all good and just make sure to do the research on the positives and negatives of each brand/model. I’ve had four Polaris and one Can Am. Can’t say anything negative about either.

We bought the Gator XUV835M new in 2018. about 700 hours at this point.
Other than maintenance, total repairs to this point about $1200, including a new battery.

Get power steering. I like my Polaris Ranger I bought last year. I wish I had a fold down windshield though like some of the Kawasaki‘s have and Can-Am’s. If you have a lot of wide-open spaces, the crew cab is good but other than that, I wouldn’t recommend a crew cab because you can’t ever turn in the woods. Also big thing is dealership location proximity to where you live. Polaris is 15 minutes from my house so that’s nice.

I would buy the one that has the dealership with the best service. I’ve had three. Favorite is the Kawasaki pro FX. A Honda was not near comfortable, but I don’t know if you could break it.
If it’s just me, I still use the 300 Foutrax four wheeler more than anything

I'm leaning more toward new, hate to wind up with someone else's problem.
I do not want any brand in a crew or double seat option.
I want a single one row seat for sure.
