Never thought about this until I got an IR scope (maybe should have gotten thermal scope - but too late). Anyway, Where would you mount the IR light on a bolt rifle?
- Barrel - not a great idea
- On the scope - the scope is already heavy. Seems like more weight would make it more like to lose zero
- rail below my forearm seems to be optimal, but seems like it will get in the way everytime I try to shoot it out of a stand.
I am thinking about mounting a rail on side of the forearm of my rifle, near the barrel. The light comes with a picatinny clip on it. Any suggestions, that is a horrible idea, etc. before I start this project.

Somewhere around here I believe I have a picatinny(sp) adapter that mounts to a sling stud. I don't think that I want it beneath the forearm. Seems like it will get in the way and be hard to reach.

I’ve got one mounted on a 700 ahead of the sling swivel on the forearm with a pnanny rail.
I have another one mounted on the mag tube of a Marlin lever gun using a clamp on nanny rail.
The NV is superior to the thermal in my opinion because you can’t see antlers with a thermal scope.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.

Here's what I did on my Ruger Scout for a light mount. Not the most elegant solution, but sufficient. BTW, the surefire Vampire lights might be a good solution for you. They are convenient but have lots of red glow in IR mode. That's not really all that important for hunting use.
