For the ones worried about people poaching their own land and not leaving it, they're already hard to catch from my understanding. I could see turkey baiters being harder to catch though.
Turkeys and migratory birds are my biggest concern. Deer will be fine.
I agree. There will be a whole lot of duck holes full of corn because they will think there is no chance to get caught. That will mean those who stay legal won't have any ducks. It will be much harder on turkeys, and if you don't keep out bait you won't have any. I can imagine all sorts of bad things happening from that.

I have posted here before about being targeted by a GW on opening day of turkey season, and of course I didn't like it. But some of the harassment of hunters I've read about in other states is far worse. Surely there is a middle ground for this.

If they are really gonna stop all government agents from entering your land, I'd rather they start with the Tax Man. I don't know how he knows, but I can put up a shed and get taxed for it the next year. smile

Satellites.

I once turned what was essentially a carport into another bedroom, and it somehow showed up on my tax appraisal for the next year. There's no way you can tell that anything has been done from a satellite picture. It was behind a locked gate and nobody went through it, so I don't know how they knew. I can't imagine the tax assessor walking in a half mile, but somehow he knew. I'm not questioning his right to look; I just don't know how he did.

People from Jackson Co Revenue Commissioners office have been known to come onto property unannounced . My father built a new house about 20 years ago. They had just moved in and noticed someone in the back yard looking around , it was "the Tax Man." He got a butt chewing for not coming to the front door and stating his business .

Reason I said satellite , they picked up our cabin , 4 wheeler shed , tractor shed and shooting houses from above a couple of years ago. Tried to tax me for shooting houses , that didn't go over too well.

"Why do you ask"?

2. Now, can an officer enter a house to get probable cause and in turn obtain a warrant to search it? If the answer is no, then the same should apply to a privately owned field.

3.So what you are saying is, with Articulable Reasonable Belief, the officer would not need a warrant, only the belief that a crime "may" be getting committed??? (multiple question marks)

4.Follow up to the previous question. If so, is the act of hunting itself enough to say a crime "may" be committed?

Three of these questions are yes or no questions so Terry v Ohio is not the correct answer.

On the same note, an officer can not legally pull me over just to see if I have a driver's license just because I'm driving. I'm driving so there's the chance I don't have a driver's license and I'm using a publicly held resource (the road), yet there is a difference in how my constitutional rights are viewed. That's a discrepancy in how the law is being used that is glaringly obvious.

Hunting is transitioning into a sport of the wealthy. Public lands will and have been inundated with new hunters. Look at all these new regulations on out of staters wanting to turkey hunt. How many states have changed rules making out of staters have to wait and be limited to opportunity. Arkansas did the same for ducks other public lands. The lease I was in started at $2500 10 years ago and then $5000 and this year $7500. Land workers want more money cause they can get it. There’s enough new hunters willing to pay. Public land is being pounded.

Landowners will do whatever it takes to keep game in their land.

Doesn’t matter if they’re traveling a few miles or few thousand. Money will corrupt the resource at some point.

Like I said careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

I get the Fourth Amendment angle and struggle with it and its application in this scenario. It’s land and not a structure so how does castle law mesh.

I saw it play out the same way. I started duck hunting several years ago when I was a youngster and loved it my entire life, but I stopped about 7 years ago. It just got to the point it was so expensive, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. I couldn't go back to public because now those places were over run or shot out by youngsters that didn't know enough to only shoot them once or twice a year. Ducks just don't go there now and the ones that would hammer them every Saturday in the same spot just can't figure out why.

I know that repealing the open fields doctrine will likely have a negative impact on game species, especially birds. I love turkeys as much as anyone you know. Apart from God, my family, and friends, they are probably the most important thing to me. Having said that, if I have to choose between what’s best for turkeys and the freedom my ancestors fought and died for, I will choose freedom every time.

The biggest problem is still ever expanding humanity. Tracts of huntable land keep shrinking and they keep getting consumed by urban sprawl. I used to hunt in the current Eastchase Shopping center in Montgomery.

That’s the real issue. Back in the mid 80s I worked with my former and his dad building the first subdivision on county line rd in Madison we were actually in limestone but got access to Madison city schools which was a draw. I still haven’t found it in person and my brother doesn’t live far from it. It is absolutely astounding at how much has been built there.

It’s the same here in the shoals and still recall Wilson Dam Rd was all chert gravel. The hunting woods was in the middle of nowhere and now house all all around. The biggest deer are being killed around subdivisions

During the 80s everyone hunted public for deer and there would be bumper to bumper to get to the check station to get that permit for the day. All the stores along the way selling sausage and baloney biscuits and thick sliced baloney and cheese sandwiches for lunch. It was somewhat festive to be honest.

These days it’s like hunting nascar style lol

That’s spot I told you about still produces when weather is right. A friends son sends me strap pics from there on occasion

We used to hunt the white and cache when it as public but not federal. Overnight stay in a houseboat and super provided which was usually fried deer steak. All for $75 a day lol
Creek monster guide service. Danny and butch were the two and we become good friends for a few years. Hunted with them as friends at the end of the season. Pulled 5-7 houseboats upriver and camped for a week. Man those were some good times.

Nowadays get your wallet out if you can. Most are gonna never see that unless for deep pockets

It’s life in general these days. We’re wealthier than ever before but it’s just too much fun nowadays so it cost real bills.

This is behind the houseboat by the bridge in Clarendon early 90s I think

See my signature. Leopold was writing about this 100 years ago.

Kneeling, I’m pointing at a fox squirrel I killed. We ate it that night
Robbie, me, Shan and Russell

Shans a vet and also travels the world certifying universities veterinary schools. We’ve been best friends since meeting duck hunting. He and Sean leased the ground in arkie that would become Sean’s legacy. A hunting club started his youngest son Kevin. Back in the day. Shan would call and say, hey got us a goose hunt at pluckaduck or wherever. Many times I’d drive over after shooting a lead out of formal or whatever and no sleep hunt for a day or two.

I went to school with Greg lol
He didn’t shoot the biggest, there was one with about 25-30 more inches

I planted all day yesterday for a lawyer that bought a place i used to have permission to hunt for years. Going to a place today for a group of doctors and businessmen. Next Tuesday realtors are coming to look at the Moody property that has been in that family for over 100 years. Young folks don't hunt and had rather have the money. Duck farm next to me is for sale I wish I had the money to jump on some of it. I have had that Moody farm leased for 40 years. I mainly keep it for friends and guys at church. I been telling them boys for years they better buy them some land but they are going to be up against it for a place now. A old man told me one time he had rather live in a shack on 200 good acres than in a mansion
