Talked to an engineer that retired from it the other day. He thinks the mini reactors are coming. Been researching all the articles I could find on it for the last hour. It does seem like a definite probability. What about all the trees pushing up the abandoned power lines that run from it up crow mountain? I am assuming they will have to be cleared.

That plant has been a white elephant for as long as I can remember. TVA is a big government poster child. I know there are a lot of Libertarians who believe that anything the government can do the private sector can do it better.

In a vacuum private is no different that government.

Maybe eventually, but anything nuke just takes too long and there is a need right now. Any construction in the near future will be gas plants. There’s no gas in Hollywood either. The proposed pumped storage facility across the river from Bellefonte is a greater possibility for our area.

I wish they'd tear down those hideous cooling towers.

A large solar farm, though not as efficient as a gas or nuke plant can be slapped up in 1/10th the amount of time and cheaper.

Not to mention all the Government regs that a fossil plant has to deal with. Trust me I know. I've sat in enough EPC meetings to choke a goat.

The guy on another site that’s a nuclear guy says the exact thing. It wouldn’t cost near as much without all the regulations that are truly a moot point according to him. Says France and many others in Europe went green and has hurt their power grid badly

I think the green sector allows for more corruption since it’s newer and involves foreign countries

Need to remove it all and add it to the surrounding public land. They will never open a power plant up with the current facilities there. It would be cheaper to go ahead with the plans across the river to generate power.

If the regs stopping the mini self contained nuke installs were tabled, we would be better off.
Service life of about 20 years, fits in a 40 foot container, sealed, proven technology that will generate 20 megawatts.

Nuclear is the true answer. Standardized small MSR’s would solve all of this bs.

Nuclear is the true answer. Standardized small MSR’s would solve all of this bs. True……except nobody could afford their power bills then. SMRs aren’t even close to being cost effective currently. Example comparison cost here- https://www.smrfacility.com/smr-cost-calculator/

I asked him direct question a few weeks ago Here’s his response and yes he’s at the top with nuclear. He was in Obamas research group looking into nuclear. He’s not a liberal either They are very serious about building nuclear plants to supply power to the data centers. That is the only way they can get the extremely high reliability they need and low carbon.
A number of nuclear plants that were shutdown for economic reasons and for BS reasons are being restarted for this very purpose. TMI, the one that didn't melt, and Palisades are for sure and I think others are possible.
The nuke plants may or may not be collocated. They will most likely operate under a power purchase agreement meaning someone else will own the power plant but will have a long term contract to buy all or a large fraction of the power generated.
For work, I just reviewed a model one of our new staff is developing to model potential power purchase agreements to support economic modeling. I tried as politely as I could to tell him his assumptions were 🤬 stupid.
There's a minimum average price that makes an investment a good investment. Obviously that is the floor and the sky is the limit. There's a theory for this and if you make good assumptions, it will be representative of reality. Not easy to do because a big part is how risky is the investment perceived. He did a number of different scenarios, all reasonable possibilities, but didn't keep them equally favorable from the power plant owners perspective. Some were a far better deal than others. That is not how you model this. That is not useful.
Ultimately these will be set by negotiations, but we need to understand what the space looks like which requires consistent assumptions not several options with a few that would never be taken because they are clearly less favorable.

Considering what solars coating the taxpayer and its low return over time The solar fields around are to be dismantled in 20-25 years and turned into native grasslands unless that’s has changed. That’s where it is offered by carbon credits they said. They’re not accounting for the leaching of heavy metals into the soils. It’s funny that during Obama and Biden one could ask google and you couldn’t find any links to that happening and now under Trump it pops up last time I looked. Funny how search engines are directing narratives.

A spot in Dallas County was looked at as a Nuclear Power Plant site, but my understanding is that went away over geology concerns. Now it has come up again as a site for mini reactors. AL power already owns the land so that hurdle is cleared.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I'm surprised they haven't thrown solar panels up right away until they decide on nuke plant or another gas plant.
