Well I can tell yall I ain’t what I used to be!! We changed 3 18 wheeler tires on the side the road this morning in the sun. Even my socks were soaked through. Them 3 tires made me step back and take a few deep breaths. Thank the good Lord there is a very nice NW breeze this afternoon so it’s at least bearable at the fields. Until I have to get in these non air conditioned ovens they’re calling trucks. I’ve gone home every night with a headache for the last 6 days. I’m ready for this vacation to be over so I can go back to work!! I built for winter, not this heat.

Ole weather been pretty stout sure enough. But we getting some rain along, so I’ll take it, grass grows good in hot weather long as we get water. And to be a good farmer, you just first be a good grass grower. 😁

I was officially sick of Summer the first day it hit 85. One of my meds makes me very intolerant of heat. My brother and some of his buddies lost a lease in S. AL so a couple joined a club in Plantersville. They moved a couple of shooting houses one day a couple of weeks ago and I tried to help them, I really did, but it was all I could do to sit and watch.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

football practice was rough yesterday, i was ringing wet just after adjusting helmets before the practice even started. We had a coach that had to sit down for 30 minutes to take a break. I was reading about high school band practices, football practice, etc, and every organized outdoor activity for school aged and college aged kids being out in the heat. GOTTA hydrate and keep hydrating! The Bear would tell you water is for sissies and weak men. lol. I played 4 years of football in high school. We got water breaks but it was from the hose. No matter how thirsty you were you never wanted to be 1-3 in line. Water would be as hot as the air outside. We’d get a couple gulps and the coach would pull it away saying “don’t drink too much, you’ll get cramps”. How about a damn heatstroke!

It was a piece of PVC pipe with small holes that a trickle of water came out if you were lucky. Plus the bitch was about 2 feet of the ground so you had to get on your hands and knees to get a drink. It was diabolical. Two a days were brutal in Florida.

We did two a day the whole month of August. Brutal heat and there was no water during practice nothing! I never passed out but several of the fat boys did. In fact they gave us salt pills before each practice. My freaking kidneys would ache by the end.

Football workouts in the mornings, then either football practice or baseball practice in the afternoons all summer long. Shit sucked

It's a testament to the human body how teens and young men survived football practices in the early '90s and prior.
IMO the summers of '82 and '83 were about as hot as today.
Water and Gatorade were provided, along maybe with salt tablets. At the start of two-a-days, our managers would make giant Igloo coolers of Gatorade with three times the amount of powder and we gulped it without blinking. By the end of the second week it was starting to taste nasty and he'd scale back a bit.
I'm actually more surprised we didn't have higher instances of fungus, athlete's feet, etc. Sweaty stinky wet won't-dry-out pads and shoes, dumb teens wearing the same damp-wet clothes, all that stuff.

August football 2 a days. I water/Gatorade break per practice. Afternoons started at 5 and ran til dark. It is a wonder that the ambulance wasn't constantly shuttling us to the hospital with heat stroke. In South Al if it wasn't 100 degrees it was 99.

I'd love to know the amount of food and beverages - soda, gatorade, water, beer - we consumed during summer workouts and August practices.
Teens eat a lot, I know. But if I tried to eat what I did in one day, I'd explode or weigh 450 pounds. Usually a buffet for lunch, and a gross amount of Hardee's or McDonald's burgers, fries and Lava Mouth-Burning Apple Pie with huge sodas.

I could pound a sack of 20 Krystal burgers and want more back then.

It is what it is. It's like this every summer, just like it's cold in winter.
