So, I planted my 1st determinates back in April/May. They all were harvested and pulled and immediately replaced with a 3rd crop of seedlings I started indoors.

Between those two plantings I also planted a secondary set of determinates. I've harvested almost all of those. Maybe 20 more tomatoes left that aren't blushing yet.

But amongst those secondary plantings, when I harvested, I cut them at the stem, maybe 5" above the soil. Intending to pull them when the new peppers are ready to go in the ground.

The new peppers are taking their sweet time sprouting and today I noticed some of the tomato stems are now putting on new growth.

So, if I didn't do anything to the stems and let them grow out and fill out, will they produce another round of tomatoes? I guess I assumed the plant would die after harvest, roots and all.

But now it's looking like that may not be the case. Anyone got any input?

Next year, Instead of starting 2nd and 3rd seedlings, I plan on clipping feeders from the existing plants to start new ones. Hellava lot less work and I didn't know about it until too late this year.

Incidentally, I did the same thing to a pepper plant that hornworms destroyed. It is also coming back very nicely and looks as healthy as any other. It's not blooming yet, but I put morebloom on it to help it.

My garden is at the top of my driveway. I live on a mountainside and not much room. Nearly every time I'm working the garden, different people, mailman, delivery or just strangers pull in and ask about the garden. Some offering to buy some. Others just wanting to know. I take time to talk with every one of them.

I have also noticed new growth around my existing tomato plants. I currently have 6-7 half grown tomato plants from suckers. Last two years the sucker tomato plants have been the biggest fall producer
