I carry a Ruger LCP MAX with 12 round magazines. I always carry 4 round extra magazines just in case. Ease of carry in a pocket holster and comfort are reasons I carry it. Federal Hydra- Shock 99 grain Deep is the ammunition of choice for the .380 ACP due to energy and penetration. With this ammo it gets close to 9mm performance. Underwood Ammo for .380 ACP is another ammo choice I use. If I want to carry IWB SIG P365 Legion 9mm is a great choice. I like to still IWB carry my S&W Shield .45 ACP some but I don’t as much as I used to since I have taken a liking to the Ruger LCP MAX.

Having had to carry and qualify for almost half my life, I can tell you that this is the answer. Doesn't matter how many rounds it has if you can't shoot it straight. Personally, for carrying concealed I prefer a Lady Smith. Laugh all you want but two things, it feels good in my grip so I can shoot it well and secondly, the hammer isn't exposed so it doesn't catch on any clothing when I pull it out. Things to consider. That's just me and my experience. Others will differ, but not many of them had to deal with the shady parts of Selma like I did all the time. In other words, it probably was more important to me than others.
I’m definitely taking that advice. I went a couple of weeks ago to shoulder a few shotguns and settled on the Beretta A300. My days of buying a gun based purely on looks are officially over... well, mostly.
Imo if you like the Kimber and shoot it well, then I would look at the Kimber CDS9 or the S&W CSX. About the same size and controls but 13 and 12 rd capacity. I currently carry the CDS 9 most of the time. No issues whatsoever.
I like the M&P series and currently EDC one of these: M&P40, Shield 40 and every now and then, the original Bodyguard 380. Never have been much for 9mm, but if I were picking one today it would be the Shield X. I wish they'd do a 40 version of the Shield X, but we all know that ain't gonna happen because the FBIs diversity hires can't handle the round and the 20 year old internet dweebs have declared it to be not cool.

Yep. The M&P 40 was one of the first that was designed for the round from the ground up. It has great ergonomics, capacity and nice ballistics in a soft shooting package. The Glock 40s were the absolute worst and gave the round a bad rap among the soy boys.

I have been thinking about a .40 caliber as well as I have a keltec sub2000 .40 that I keep as my truck gun sometimes. I was looking at the Glock 23 since the mags are interchangeable and have heard that the Gen 5 version fixed some of the issues you mentioned. How is the muzzle flip with the M&P 40?
I've always thought it was minimal. The M&P40 is a great defensive pistol, IMHO. Mine is an old original model purchased in 2011.
I have always heard good things about them. Looks like the m2.0 compact or the Shield M2.0 & Shield Plus would be good for concealment, but I would be concerned with the follow up accuracy
