How many polish the bore of your turkey guns? I’ve never done one myself, but I’m just really curious as to how much it improves a pattern? Anyone with first hand experience, good or otherwise, please chime in! Thanks, Robinhedd

I take a bore snake to mine every now and then. Pretty simple and easy

I have. It has helped with dirty Remington barrels
It can improve patterns, but is generally not necessary with today’s chokes and loads.
Especially not necessary if you have a chrome lined barrel
At this point with a deep clean besides a clean barrel, you will just be chasing pattern numbers

I did the barrel on my 870 and it made a difference. If you do it once then just run a bore snake after every few rounds you are good.

This was my fifth season hunting with an old single shot hr 20 that I had cut and threaded, and I rattle canned it. I have never cleaned it once lol.

Back when we were shooting nitros, I polished the forcing cone on my 11-87 with steel wool and a drill. Shot crazy good patterns. Still using the 11-87 with Apex tss. Pattern is insane. TSS might cause turkey extinction

Yes that is what I am referring too Using krill oil or the like and going to town with the drill for quite sometime till is is mirror finish. As has been mentioned in some circumstances it can help some guns especially with lead loads

I have done it on prior guns and it improved the pattern a bit but not worth the trouble to me.

I used to do it every year as part of my pre season rituals. It does improve patterns but not significantly. Don't have time to fool with it anymore

I'm sure it will improve the pattern, but so far I've never had a gun shoot TSS where I felt it needed to be any better.

My old O/U 12 and my Stevens 301 .410 have been polished and it helped the consistency and evenness of the patterns on both . My CZ 20 ga O/U has chrome lined barrels and is bad medicine with a Carlson extended Full. I run a bore snake through all of them after 2 shots . I've sent a lot of TSS through paper and found after two shots the pattern begins to lose consistency . I used small pieces of medium - fine Scotch Brite with cutting oil spun by a drill. I would suggest to anyone , before spending a bunch of $ testing chokes , polish the bore and try the chokes that came with the gun. Here's the Stevens 301 .410 , polished bore , factory choke . The load is hand rolled by a local guy , it's a duplex of #8 over #9.5. A LOT of testing has gone into this load . Mine is polished and it shoots my TSS much better since. I haven’t missed a turkey at 80 yards from my pop up blind on the greenfield since doing it. The BOG pod helped too.
