I've noticed that BH209 powder is about $180/lb lately, but I can't even find it in-stock online anywhere.

Has anyone seen Blackhorn 209 powder in stores lately?

I haven't bought any since the little jug went from 10oz to 8 and the price at least doubled way back then. Seems like Hodgdon only makes a limited run at some point each year. Good luck finding it anywhere.

It seems it usually shows up around late summer and will be in stock at most places for about a month or so before it's sold out. It's worth it though!

Thanks for the replies. Post here if you see it showing up this summer. I’ll do the same.
I really don’t understand the price increase of BH over the past few years. It’s now 3X what most premium smokeless powder costs per pound.

The price is a ripoff . As long as folks pay the price it will keep increasing until sales slow Just my opinion

Any idea of why it’s so expensive? Harder to process? Shortage of some ingredient?

I have wondered the same thing. Never understood why it was so expensive and hard to come by.

Supply and demand. BH209 was kind of a niche powder up until the past few years. Now it’s the gold standard of black powder and everyone uses it. If I had to guess, they haven’t scaled up their factory accordingly.

I still see it at Walmart and cabelas occasionally. I was picking up a thing of it whenever I’d see it. I think I have a couple pounds now. I imagine that’s 20 years worth for how often I use it.

As I've mentioned before, BH209 only gets one production run per year. It's usually made in May and starts hitting stores/distributors in June/July. NOW is the time to buy it if you need some. If you wait until September and then come here crying the blues about how it's out of stock, I have zero sympathy for you.

I'm thankful that I picked up 3 or 4 cannisters a few years back when it was readily available, at then, a reasonable price.

I have the unopened canisters stored in dry ammo boxes.

I won't ever have to have any again for the rest of my life unless it were to go bad.

Got update email from Midway saying BH209 in stock--1 hour later, when I went to Midway, BH209 out of stock again. If they can sell out in minutes, I don't know why Hodgdon doesn't make more. I'm about ready to change propellants like so many other folks are doing.
