That I’ve been thinking about.
What is the draw with Berkshire?
If they paid just a modest dividend I could truly see why they would be a great investment. Fact is, they don’t and they are way behind on the average growth of the S&P. I mean way behind what our 401k’s are doing. I’ve heard “we have so much cash”, but what good is that if you’re lagging behind? If I was a Berkshire investor, I’d be frustrated.
The other is HY. Hyster has been around forever, but their stock is way down. They’ve consistently paid a very good dividend (currently at 4.49) and the SA app says it’s a “strong buy”. I don’t know about that…
My mind instantly goes to the little robots amazon is using in their warehouses. I think that’s the future of material handling, but I’m sure with large forklift’s they’ll still be manned.

Berkshire might be a good play for the market heads South. Maybe after a big downturn. That’s when all that cash will go “to work.”

Warren Buffet has been a value investor. He is no longer running the company but the mindset will not change. Value investing has not been very profitable in this bull market. Berkshire has made many people a lot of money through the years. Buffet's investing style has worked for a long time and will work again. That said I don't believe it is a very good bet in the short term.

That said I don't believe it is a very good bet in the short term. Thats the current problem with Berkshire and others like them. Right now, the market is not following the fundamentals at all and until it breaks it wont be. That said it might be good to have some Berkshire on hand for when the markets' shenanigans finally come to a head.

They got left in the dust over the last year though. Not even close.
Maybe long term is their draw. Why not both? If they’re sitting on that much cash, there’s a LOT of winners right now.

Starting points matter when making comparisons:
"Over the last 20 years, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) has outperformed the broader market, returning approximately 744.9% compared to the S&P 500's 489% gain."
I don't own BRK, but it has been a very solid investment over the long haul. With the two founders now out, who knows how investors will view it going forward.

I bough AMD back in March of 2025 for right around $100 a share. I sold it when we bought the beach house. Today that stock is at $555 per share.

I bough AMD back in March of 2025 for right around $100 a share. I sold it when we bought the beach house. Today that stock is at $555 per share. I also bought AMD about that time and sold enough when it hit 100% to pay the original price , now I'm playing on house $ . TSM same deal and a tech I like , it doesn't have erratic movements like most techs , just a steady , upward climb, and shows no signs of changing .

BRK-B is my largest holding , It was really moving up in '23 till Spring of '25 , then has been flat since. I keep hanging on to it though, it's not making $ now , but isn't hurting me either.
