Investigators said the fire that killed 19-year-old Walter Hensley and 21-year-old McNeil Mosteller was caused by discarded fireworks. According to officials, the fireworks retained enough heat to ignite combustible materials on an ATV on which they were carried. The fire then spread from the parked ATV to the home.

The heavy weight cardboard in those things can ember burn for a good while. I've seen trashcans start burning from stuff like that.

I am friends with Walter Hensley's father. Great kids and an absolute tragedy.

I realize it is not the fireworks fault but the older I get the more I hate those things.
I know they are fun so I tolerate them as my area has a covenant that says no fireworks except New Years Eve and July 4th. People respect that pretty much. Boy the kids blast a ton of money on those two nights though. A couple of weeks ago some kids started with some and my wife’s cousin who is a HOA officer for our area, texted my wife about having to go to work the next morning, the kids stopped dead on at 10pm before Karen came out. That’s respecting our neighbors and I can live with that. Now, my dogs have a whole different opinion. It’s hard to sit or lie there watching tv with two wiener dogs trying their best to burrow under you. Not lie next to you but under you.
Condolences to the families of the two guys that died. I have yet to read where anyone had anything negative to say about them. Perhaps this tragedy can remind people that those things are not toys.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

That is so very tragic. I have several fire stories, I won't share them here, but every damned one of them could have easily prevented.
