Is there proof that it was deflected off a bullet proof vest or something?
I've killed way more than my fair share of animals with rifles and there's one thing that I have learned over the years about high velocity projectiles......while they, and the results from them, are generally fairly predictable, there is no true guarantee on terminal performance or what happens after the trigger is pulled. You can shoot an animal in the exact same spot, shooting the exact same loads out of the same box and sometimes you'll get explosive exits and big holes, with lots of trauma, and for seemingly no reason, other times you dont. Sometimes a bullet will deflect off something just after impact and exit or end up 90 degrees from the direction in which it was traveling when the animal was hit.

Not to mention, we have zero idea of what type of bullet was used, velocity, age of the ammo, etc., etc. There are way to many unknowns to make a statement like that BB.
