Anyone service the Shelby Co area? Seems ridiculous that it costs 11K to replace a 3 ton heat pump, and with that, I get one that just meets code for SEER.
My current one needs a TXV valve, and the company wants $1,600 to replace it. Part cost is $250 or less. I am 2 months out of a 10 year warranty with Carrier.
I need to go to HVAC school. Pay is better than counting beans I think. Probably about 700$ to high. Probably going dump the Freon and put new in. Ask if they are recovering, pumping down, or releasing the freon

My last Trane lasted 20+ years. When it finally kicked the bucket of course I went with another Trane. A year later my house burned to the ground and due to the close proximity of my new unit to the house, it was destroyed as well. My new home came with a brand that I don't remember and I'm not expecting more than a decade from it, but when it goes, guess which brand I'll be getting. Well, that or a Carrier since I believe they are the same company. Carrier and trane are different

Johnny Rich. (205) 612-5099 Most honest guy I know. He’s the one I posted about a few weeks ago where a coworkers girlfriend had quotes up to $11k, saying she needed a new unit. He went over and went up in the attic. A duct had come off the trunk line so her cold air was blowing into the attic. $150.00 service call. She hasn’t had anymore trouble. This is why I like AlDeer. Can’t get a better recommendation than this.

I'd replace the TXV at $1600 (or less if you find someone else to get the part and do the install). Half that cost is refrigerant. Cut out and solder in new TXV, pull vacuum then charge it up. Much better than a total replacement if the rest of the system is in decent shape. Shouldn’t have to pay for Freon swapping a txv out. Recover or pump down. May have to add a pound or two at best

Paid $5800 today for a 2.5 ton Grandaire heat pump. It’s made by Carrier with a 10 year warranty. It’s a standard, no frills unit and is around 16 seer. I am very pleased with the cooling ability and noise level. Installed by a local guy that has done my work for years. Southeast Alabama.

Most likely only fully covered for 1 yr. That’s a pretty decent price in today’s current market.

My wife's aunt was having issues with hers. And they told her she needed a new unit for around $11,000. I called Brown's and they sent out a guy to check it. A loose wire outside was causing the issue. They charged her $250 to fix it.

Literal thieves The company was Sentry out of Birmingham. She had just had the furnace replaced. So I was already leary of the quote. But the tech said the only problem was the wire. Brown's earned her business going forward.
