I understand the hate for the roundabouts but they're here to stay.
They are provend ot almost eleminate fatalitys at intersections becasue it eleminates the left turn infont of oncoming traffic, also the same reason you are starting to see the diverging diamond interchanges showing up.
They also do improve traffic flow, I can vouch for that first hand. they installed one at the intersection down the street from my office. Before traffic would back up 40-50 cars deep every afternoon with people trying to turn left at the stop sign. Doesn't happen at all anymore.
