I wish we had gone ahead and converted to the metric system back in the 70's. Everybody would be used to it by now.
It is a much more logical system, but it is difficult for Americans to comprehend...

It's not too difficult for Americans to understand. We just didn't want their system.

I have no problem comprehending it. I just don't think in meters, liters, or grams.

It's not too difficult for Americans to understand. We just didn't want their system. I sad "Difficult for Americans to comprehend." it's easy to understand for sure, but if you tell an average American, "Hey it's 87 kilometers to the next town," they will look at you like you have a horn growing out of your head, because they have no idea how far that is without knowing the conversion factor and whipping out a calculator. So yeah... It's difficult for Americans to comprehend distances and measurements in metric. Most engineers and designers I have known would have loved to switch over the the metric system years and years ago. And yes, it's a better system than what we have by any measure. (No pun intended.) The average person just simply does not like change, because they have to learn something new. That's the reason we don't have it.

Much like the traffic Roundabout. Not a fan of the metric system. I prefer MOA over MILS with my scopes. I think it was Lincoln who signed it into law as the standard. That worked.... As for roundabouts, I'm fine with them and they like putting them in in the Athens/Huntsville area. But every time a new one opens I always encounter someone who is befuddled by them. They usually turn left into them after stopping.

Agreed, Doing math on units of 10 is much easier than units of 16.

Agreed, Doing math on units of 10 is much easier than units of 16. Tell me about it. I was a structure and mechanical designer and field engineer for almost 50 years. I'm still really good at fractions though...

So yeah... It's difficult for Americans to comprehend distances and measurements in metric. Yep, but only because it's a foreign system that we chose not to use.

I agree that overall metric is probably a better and more precise system. But like others I only have a loose approximation in my head if you give me a metric unit. It would be a hard transition but yeah if they had done it back in the day and I grew up in it, it would be fine.

I have no problem comprehending it. I just don't think in meters, liters, or grams. Yeah, how good does it sound to say "I caught a 5,443 gram or 5.4 kilogram bass". "I caught an 12 pound bass" sounds much better, and people know immediately what that is.

Yep, oil is a commodity traded worldwide and is still measured in barrels. A few things are still measured in hogsheads and puncheons.
