How much trouble/expense would this be on a savage model 24 over under 20 gauge/.222

The 223 should clean up a 222 chamber. Difficulty will be in taking barrels apart to fit it into a lathe for chambering. The cost to do it will probably be more than the value of the rifle.

If you decide you don't want to do it let me know. I have a Windham Weaponry AR 15 with a Sig Romeo red dot that I'll trade you for it. Also still have the LCP holster.

Juice isn’t with the squeeze. The only benefit would be cheaper ammo. If you were looking to shoot heavier bullets in the .223 your rifle most likely has too slow of a twist rate in the barrel.

Buy a model 24 in 20/223 or 12/223

Probably reduce the value of your gun 50%

Honestly, in practical terms, not sure what you realistically gain in that platform, converting it. A 222/20 is a gem in and of itself.

Bar7Mag. Hope you are well! Still love my Case knife display I got from you. Man I would just ride the .222 train. Yes the ammo is a little more expensive but you will be shooting that gun one shell at a time. I agree that the re-chamber would be expensive and would lower the value of the gun.

A triple deuce is a sweetheart of a cartridge, as well as being historical. Keep it.

I scored an old bolt action .222 converted to .223 for $200 with auction fees, taxes and FFL fee included about 3 yrs ago. I think nobody wanted something with a 3 stamped over the last 2 on the caliber. Like others said it’s 55gr and lower bullet weight weapon. But it is very very accurate. So there is that.

Spoke to my smith he said it would cost $125 still mulling it over. The rifle is old and nice…hard to mess with a classic beauty

$125 is far less than I would have imagined.

Shot this 222 some today. Very fun. Could not see the front sight at all this morning shooting into the sun. Checked function with a few shots. Went to dad’s this afternoon and 3 generations got to shoot it. Was very accurate with the peep sight.
