Jesus was making a point to us that all the religious doublespeak and religious fluff is not important. The only thing that is important is that you Love God and you Love other people. That's it. That's the main thing. The words came straight out of Jesus' mouth. How much plainer and more straightforward can you get than straight from the source. Jesus said, "Do this and you will live." Period. End of story.
With respect your assessment falls short and needs to be expanded on. It can give the wrong impression. Love is required, but it’s only through the spirit that we produce it.
What you’ve written can cause people to falsely assume they are capable of earning salvation on their own fruition, or through works. We, in our fallen nature, are incapable of the kind of love that Jesus is talking about. That love is only present within us through the working of the Holy Spirit. The only way we possess the Spirit is through faith in Jesus.
We can’t earn salvation through good works. There’s no amount of love you can produce on your own that justifies you before God. It’s impossible for us to do it ourselves, that’s why faith is essential.
